An excellent vintage and a bottle in tremendous condition and level. Tardieu's Vieilles Vignes Cornas cuvee is consistently excellent and this bottle shows a wine at its peak, but I'd suggest with bottles of similar provenance it will continue to drink well for a decade. Beautiful Syrah nose and real length and complexity. Delicious.

Consistent with previous notes, holding up well. Savory and silky.

Open in the bottle for about two hours; the nose is very smoky and savory, a little charred grape vine, worn leather, mushrooms and vegemite. Palate is smooth and suave with more savory notes: olive brine, something sightly bitter, graphite, tart blackberries and plum skin. Really long lovely finish but the acidity is definitely taking over here. In a great spot now but I think it’s time to drink up.

Open in the bottle for a couple hours; initially it was kind of weird. Not in a bad way, the cork was fine, the color was perfect, but the smell and taste were very un-Syrah. It reminded me more of an old left bank bordeaux than anything else. But after two hours or so the Syrah is starting to come out. Nose is charred peppers, beef broth, green olives, very savory. I love that. Palate is also quite savory, olives, …

Another very nice showing, consistent with my previous note. The balance of Cornasy savoriness with elegant, silky tannins is remarkable. IYKYK.

Flavorwise this old-school Cornas, all meat and smoke and game and earth, with the black fruit decidedly in the background. But texturally it's quite silky and medium-weight and mostly resolved, more elegant than powerful.

Cork with some seepage, this tastes heat damaged, volatile and roasted.

Christmas Day 2014 (My place, parramatta, sydney) : Terrible cork taint ruins what I can just about perceive is a brooding beautiful beast underneath. Very sad.

Medium red, orange on the rim. Classic horse stable, underwood, herbs and minerals as well as dark fruits in the nose. Similar notes on the palate, long lingering. Great traditional style Cornas. Best to drink now or keep another max five years.

Not decanted, but opened and tasted 1 hour before serving. Dark, slightly cloudy ruby. Some barnyard on the nose that blew off after 20 minutes of air. Blackberry, prunes, cigar tobacco. Velvety structure with fine tannin, coats the tongue and lingers with a long finish. This is excellent and drinking beautifully now.

Decanted 3 hours. Very similar to the previous bottle. Nose was screaming bacon, olives, herbs, dark fruits and smoke. Full body, the tannins are so ripe that this is pure velvet, quite unusual for Cornas. Fresh acidity and long finish. Can hold another 7-8 years easy.

Decanted 8 hours. Medium ruby with a very thin light brownish rim. Nose is complex and it is a pleasure to sniff something different each time: very smoky, nutmeg, violet, meaty, blackberry... Not very tannic with medium acidity, medium body and slighlty rough, this Cornas drinks well but need some time to open up. First it opened on smoky flavors with spices then showed its great dark fruits, violets, grape..constantly evolving. Michel Tardieu uses a lot of new oak and …

Lots of olive on the nose. Very dark purple. I thought the oak under control and integrating. I thought this tasted of its place but richer than many other cornas. It will be interesting to see how this develops. Would have preferred to have poured several hours in advance and then drunk. Oh well

Hated to drink this so young, but this one was a recently discovered leaker. There is a lot of everything is this wine, and the tannins are far from settled down. There is enough fizzy raspberry fruit to take this wine into and through its awkward teens into a graceful adulthood. It's a shame I had to put this one down so young.
