Taken and drank with friends as third red after 2005 Domaine de Chevalier and before Talbot 1985. Aired for about 90 mins. Darker and richer than the Chevalier, perhaps not as nuanced but lovely wine.

No formal notes. Pours pretty dark, graphite, black cherry, oak, crushed rock, black raspberry- brooding. In the mouth, dry, high acid, high tannin, med/+ body, needs time, lots of time, or a full day or two decant. After 5hrs open, still needed time. Hold, 10+ yrs. This baby's going places/

It’s been cellared a bit too long, but still shows good depth of flavour. Hardly any remaining tannin though. Tasted light and went well with barbecued steak.

Flowers, sage, currants, and spice, with a background note of espresso effortlessly create the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, soft, fresh, and sweet, with a mélange of black cherries, black raspberries and currants that create the lighter, silky styled profile that carries through from start to finish. The wine is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV, 3.7 pH. Drink from 2028-2042. 91-93 Pts

Less Merlot used than usually (I have no details). Round and creamy red berries, good acidity and tannin and a good length.

En Primeur campaign for the 2024 vintage Day Four (Bordeaux) : touch of biscuit, sweet spice, toast, herbaceous notes here, touch of baked beans, perhaps a little lacking in fruit, slightly dilute. Medium plus intensity acidity, green notes accompany lightweight red fruits, very soft tannins. To be honest, it's a bit of a nothing wine. Better value elsewhere.

First tasting was very thin and disjointed. I thought it might have been over-the-hill but a couple of hours of air brought it together and the following day, it was even better. A lot of sediment but once it was filtered, the colour came through and was a nice shiny deep purple. Fruit aromas were subdued and a lot of earth and leather came through. On the palate were red and blue fruits with well integrated oak and tannins as …

My wife and I bought an '05 on our first date. We have a few over the years and when we drink one, we buy another. We popped a 2012 today and it is still la great wine. Elegant is the first description that comes to mind. Great oakiness with cassis, a meaty note and black currant. Light acidity and tannins now, should keep another 5years.

Served blind: Meaty, savoury, dark hued fruit are non delineated, cedar, oak, alcohol prickle, with time the fruit opens to show as plums, blackcurrant. Juicy acidity, cedar, dark hued fruits are, again, non-delineated on the palate - slightly smudged in focus - but integrated with the oak. Nice I knew what this one was

Bistro Rex (Bistro Rex, Potts Point) : Served blind. One of three wines from the 2010s tonight and this bottle was mine though I had never tried this wine before. A very different note to the last two. Heavy oak, vanilla, berries ++. Quite alot of tannin, puckering though it fades fairly quickly. Smells beautiful, unmistakably French. Planned to revisit this later after it had some more air but I think the bottle ended up getting finished. I think the …

Crushed stones, flowers, red with black cherries and a marine influence sets the tone in the perfume. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine is soft, silky, and vibrant, making the perfect backdrop for all of the wines sweet, ripe plums, mint and spice notes in the refined finish. The wine is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot, making this the highest percentage of Cabernet ever used in any vintage of Alter Ego. Drink from …

Popped and poured. Dark garnet color. Nose of blackberry, cassis, slightly herbal, a touch of vanilla and dark chocolate coming through from the oak. Very nice. Similar flavors on the palate with dark black fruits, cedar, some slightly earthy undertones but still more primary and fruit driven at this point. Medium acidity and tannin. Smooth mouthfeel and finish. Delicious, balanced Bordeaux. Good now but room to grow.

Not the best year for this wine, a little more acidity that it should have, right after opening the bottle it was very strong, we had to wait more than an hour and decanted the wine to have a better feeling and more balanced taste. Hoping to taste another vintages and compare.

14.5/16. 88-92. Good value. 51% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot. Excellent cork condition. No fault. Deep garnet. Looks young even though wine is already 11 years old. Decanted and opened after 4 hours. This wine requires a lot of air and patience. It has a good sense of place - pointing the wine to Margaux. Smooth, aromatic, balanced and refined. Nose - Medium intensity. Plenty of red fruit suggesting a high merlot content - Strawberry, Raspberry etc.. …

Probably the antithesis of those who enjoy fuller, richer wines. This is lean, fresh, with red fruit, cedar, pencil, some oak, some cigar. I would start drinking these up at this point, but no hurry.

Had very low expectation of the 2013 Alter Ego because a friend said it was very bad, but it wasn’t that bad (probably due to the low expectation). Quite acidic but quite smooth. Would taste quite ok if drinking with some fatty meat. Quite dead after an hour or so though

On initial pop and pour, oak notes overpowered a bit. Decanted for around 1.5 hours and the wine opened up beautifully. Nose of dark red and black fruits, bitter cocoa dusted raspberry, black currant, pencil shaving/graphite and some toasty oak and vanilla notes in the background. Plums and blackcurrant forward, with an incredible perfumed nose.. @[1|842869|Andrew Kong] your lovely Alter Ego 2012 was singing last night at Leonardos and magnificent! Bold and powerful, even stood up to heavy suckling pig and Bak Kut Teh ?? herbal soup dishes. A solid wine for pairing Asian foods. Possibly the best Alter Ego experience I have had and shows how great a job Chateau Palmer has done on their other (Not second!!) wine. Time to hunt down more vintages..

While very nice, nose is still abit tight, especially for a 2012 2nd label. Some nice fruit and structure - tannins already decently mellow and smooth. However, perhaps just a personal preference but I’d prefer the 2012 d’issan which is at a similar price point but has a aromatic kick that the alter ego 2012 doesn’t

So serious for a second wine. Could pass as others' first wine. Not incredibly fruity. Dark and tannic and still young seeming. Dark cherry and BlackBerry and licorice. I love palmer but don't you always feel like you're too early.
