Domaine Fourrier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers Vieille Vigne

Classic GC nose, great colour and nice complexity to start, this wine is ready to drink. Evolved into a much for fruit and sugar driven profile, tonnes of length, at times an almost shirazzy jam but with the refinement that you wouldn’t get there. Would pair this with sweeter savoury, lamb, duck, sweet potato… avoid anything tart (didn’t go well with lemony dessert).

Tried this next to the 2016 version: Both offered red cherry fruit and that earthy Gevrey “blood and iron” plus briar, balanced with med tannins and acid. The 16’ had a bit more ripe black fruit where the 20’ was drier and more forest floor-herbaceous. 13.5 % Alc. Both were on the burly side of Burgundy and a touch hot. Late night at home with J. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart and Grassl Cru. Much better in the Grassl. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of light brambles, purple berries, dark plum, concentrated cherries. Youthful. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of cinnamon spice, peppery spices, smoky coffeebean, juicy dark red plums, boysenberries, very sweet concentrated cherries, minerality. …

My 2nd bottle. Would have thought it was premature to open, but both have been excellent. Open red fruit. Hard to imagine this could drink better in the future, but have a few more to follow.

Very aromatic. Riper fruit compared to its stable mates, so the wine appears a little sweeter and less saline, which is a good thing because a lot of 2020 reds are on the dry side despite the warm vintage. Great wine and worth your attention.

Very young, but tasty, red fruited potential with some stems.

Tuesday Burgundy Cellar Visits - Mugneret-Gibourg, Dujac, Château de la Tour, and Fourrier (Cote d'Or) : Tasted at the domaine. Concentration black cherry and plum, showing with meaty and black pepper notes. Excellent balance for such a young wine, with a charming, fresh and persistent finish. Very impressive, 93+ point potential, 2026 forward.
