Domaine Durand, Cornas, Empreintes

Really disappointing. Maybe my bottle was off or in a totally closed down dumb phase but this was like a ghost - nothing left to offer but faint hints of what might previously have been there. No spice, no briary gamey fruit. Just a watery whisper of a wine - maybe I waited too long? Expected more given the hype around this producer and this vintage.

Riper and broader on the nose—black plum, licorice, and warm spice—but the palate feels looser and less defined. Some hollowness through the mid-palate, and the alcohol shows a bit more than ideal. There's fruit and generosity, but less tension and structure compared to the Voge. Not flawed, just softer and more forward. Drink sooner than later.

Most of the wine sites say to refrain from opening 2010s from the Northern Rhone. To me, this is at peak right now. Deep and dark, like a purple and black Baltimore Ravens jersey. Tannins are barely taste-able. Soft, fleshy, lengthy finish. I have one more bottle left but i won't keep it much longer.

Notes from PNP - wine has aged well. Dark red, nearly black color. On nose, blackberry, olives, savory notes of tobacco and soy sauce. On palate, blackberry, blueberry and touch of minerality. Medium+ body, medium+ acidity, medium tannins and very long finish. 92-93 range. Not anything like a "modern CDP" as I thought when tasting blind ~ 10 years ago.

About the same as a bottle a year and a half ago. Inky color and a nice nose. Blueberries, stones, and a little tapenade. Solid finish. Solid wine, in fact - not a religious experience, but...solid. Better on the second night, which suggests (at least to me) that it has at least a couple more years of useful life ahead of it.

Took to a party, so all I had was one small sip right after opening and a four ounce pour an hour or so later. Seems to punch above its weight. Dark fruits and hint of herbs and tapenade. Very well balanced and should hold (and maybe improve) for several more years.

Really hitting its stride. Decant for two hours; consumed over another two. Tannins mellow with O2 exposure to evolve into a dark fruit, moth coating gorgeous northern Rhône. Was an excellent wine with BBQ pork and collards. Just like the French intended....

Last tasted ~ 4.5 years ago - see note below - I can't find my notes for this one but it would not be a confused with a modern CDP (it's modern in style but clearly a Syrah)! This is an impressive wine! The color is still blueish. The taste is is full-bodied, mouth-filling, seductive and fruity, displaying pleasant but not too evident blackberry flavors. While this may not be the most typical kind of Northern Rhône wine, representing to a certain degree a New-World-influenced style, it is anyway a solid, well-structured, alluring and multidimensional wine that convinces both with its quality and character.

Deep ruby. Medium intensity nose with aromas of black cherries, plums black pepper and toast. Some cedar, cloves. On the palate a dry, medium acidity wine with medium plus tannins, medium plus body and medium intensity flavors. Finish is medium plus. This wine is good and can be drunk now but also suitable for further aging.

Medium ruby red with fruit and some savory aromas and flavors....good showing of dark berries and cinnamon. Medium bodied and finish. Good wine at the end of dinner. Food pairing is challenging with the savory notes.

Nose: black cherry, blackforest cake, cigar, cigar box, damp moss/leaves, charcoal. Light nose. Taste: very dry, medium body. Pine chips, willow bark, generally woody. Fruits are sour black plum, blueberry, red currant. High acidity, fruits less ripe. Sweet grass. Sandy tannins with slightly fuzzy texture. A syrah on the lighter, less-ripe side; less rich than I prefer. However, sophisticated. Enjoyable lengthy finish that evolves to sour blackberry. Decently made but not my style.

Nice wine. Decanted about an hour, and it got better as we drank it. Aroma really moved towards smoky bacon as time went on, with some pepper and spice as well. Blackberries on the palate with more bacon. Finish just ok but nicer with food. Paired quite well, not surprisingly, with duck breast and shroomy grains. A lot good here, but nothing spectacular.
