10 years old, fruit is somewhat muted offering a dusty red cherry and some earthy tones. Enjoyable and might be better if consumed 2-3 years earlier.

Lavender, cranberry, tar, and burning leaves to start, with some very pleasant tannins still hanging on 10 years after harvest and a cranberry-juice kind of acidity. As the glass decants, more leather, almost like a leatherbound book, and licorice come out, and the red fruits, rhubarb, sour cherry, pomegranate, and strawberry, are more at the fore. A nice before-the-fireplace sort of wine that I can imagine sitting well alongside some duck or pigeon.

Initially this wine was a bit muted and herbacious. I left half a bottle for the next day and then it showed a whole lot better. Usually I try to follow the development during a few hours, but I wasn’t able to do so in this case. One thing s for sure: this wine needs a fair bit of time to show its best! Medium-light ruby color. Full aromas of cherry, red berries, milk chocolate and a hint of violets. …

The wine has not aged well. I drank my first bottle of this 2013 in 2008. At that time I noted that the wine was very fruit forward, but with aeration it became more balanced and pleasant. With the present bottle the fruit was mostly gone. Left was an unpleasant acidic backbone. With aeration some of the fruit returned but all and all this was a less than enjoyable drinking experience. The color was dark red and the wine did …

Odd squarish warped bottle. Crystalline scarlet ruby with a garnet rim Soft bitter cherry opening, But gained quite a bit of leathery, tannic fruit with air. Lighter alcohol Persistent on the palate. Nice, but dry dry

To be honest, the odd shape of the bottle attracted me most to this wine. And the fact that there is not a lot of Gattinara on the SG market. Led by previous CT reviews, I decanted this for 6 hours and even though I thought it was going to be enough, it still showed so much tightness. Nose was subtle, displaying mostly primary fruit at this stage complemented by hints of herbaceousness. Tannins and acidity are scorching high and …

Fine Wines SG - Nebbiolo BYOB (Praelum Wine Bistro) : Medium ruby. Quite a good intensity on the nose and palate, and a good weight. Aromas and flavours of cherry, cloves, roses and tar. Good structure with intensity to boot

Dusty stone cellar with everything else muted at first. Needs at least two hours of decanting. Then there’s lovely dried cherry and raspberry, roses, mushrooms, prune, spices, tar and tobacco. Complex nose. Simpler on the palate. Lighter body than barolo, more similar to Barbaresco but lacks intensity. A lot of mouth drying tannins and prominent acidity. Medium and fairly light finish. Note that this is not the riserva.

Disappointing. No obvious faults but this was very pedestrian. Pleasant nose of cherry, rose, and tar and then meh. Poor QPR.

Shut down and had a funk bitterness that blew off after 1-2 hours really opened up well. Decant recommended. I opened a magnum so there was quite a bit of fruit but also some a little too much oak.

Family dinner night, Farina LaFayette Village. Drinking so well right now, plenty of black cherry, anise, and sweet cedar-spice along with nice flora undertones. Food friendly acidity and a nice tannic structure. Definitely value @ $25 (Wine Library). A- (92) evaluation.

Macerated with the skins for 15-18 days. Fermenting slowly in stainless steel until March, after which the wine is moved to age in oak. Aged for 2 years in huge (10000-liter) oak bottis (90%, all old) and small barriques (10%, approx. 1/5 new). 13,5% alcohol. Luminous, translucent and moderately deep cranberry red with a pale brick-orange rim. Dense and brooding yet not particularly expressive nose with dark-toned aromas of sour dark plums, some wizened black cherries, a little bit of …

Attendre!

Black cherries, anise, earth, and tarry notes on the finish. Leathery tannins. Fruit became brighter near the end of the bottle, thinking a quick decant before serving wouldn't hurt at all. Travaglini always delivers. A- (91) evaluation.

Tart black cherries with baking spices and hints of tar. Faded leather tannin adding nice structure on the finish. Pretty consistent with my 1/20/17 note. Can see this dropping off in the next few years, thinking I need to finish my last 3 bottles off early 2019. Sticking with the A- (90) evaluation.

Surely Gattinara is one of the best kept secrets of the wine world. Relatively obscure, and overshadowed by the global reputation of Barolo and Barbaresco, this little region grows amazing Nebbiolo, and Travaglini in particular makes stunning wines. In spite of the eccentric and decidedly clumsy bottle shape. This is the entry-level red I think, and therefore the most accessible, but it is absolutely delicious. You'll want more and more of it. And it evolves in bottle over an hour …

From a bottle opened last night - a light translucent ruby in the glass, with red fruit and menthol on the primary nose. Sweet and sour cherry fruit, with good acidity and decent persistence - I haven't started to dig in to my Barolo from this vintage yet, but if this entry-level bottling is a harbinger of things to come, definitely something to look forward to.

PnP, tart black cherry aroma with wonderful allspice-cinnamon hints initially that reveals more earthy, tarry depth as you get deeper into the bottle. Softer woody tannins at this point, sweet cedar notes have started to develop. Love to see the development here (see previous notes); glad I have at least 4 more bottles. Overall Evaluation: A-.

Travaglini's Gattinara is nothing if not consistent: balanced, lightish for a red, with a fair bit of structure too. Thin in color, with spryly acidic red fruit, shortish finish, notably light tannins. Perhaps a little too reserved to be a crowd pleaser, and a little light on distinctive personality to really delight the wine nerds, but it's hard to find fault in any element. Super food friendly, but NB its nuance could be drowned out by bolder dishes. Very good.

This was beautiful, served with meatballs and a simple pasta sauce. Light bodied, high acidity, and on the nose floral scents lead into, tar, and dried red fruits. Red fruits dominate the palate with a hint of rustic earth and mushrooms. This was one heck of a screaming deal...buy more. Excellent+
