Appearance: a mesmerising dark blood core with bright red hues. Med bodied with translucent body Nose: mmm, aromas immediately remind me of Burgundy style Pinot Noir. Notes of red fruits: red cherries, sour cherries, pomegranate, forest floor, herbal spices, floral notes. If you leave it open for longer, the nose opens up even more Palate: this is very much red fruit forward: sour cherries, raspberries pomegranate followed by savoury notes : forest floor, mushrooms, cooking spices. Tannins are very refined …

Wonderful mix of black plums, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, roses. Decent length. This was way too easy to drink. Drink now to 2035. Preferably hold. As with other bottles, there is some sediment in the bottle, probably worth a decant IMO.

Balance is excellent. Savoury, with good fruit. Firm tannins, integrated acidity. A long life in front.

Expressive and fantastic nose, floral and bright initially, red fruited with some savory wild stuff, akin to a slightly peppery pungent plant. Fruit is sticky and somewhat tart, more of a fruit skin character, but on the finish some deep red cherry and strawberry. The best smelling Pinot (or bottle of wine in general) I've had in a very long time!

Interesting bouquet of red fruits, fermented soya bean, asparagus, old leather and seasoned cedar. Palate is balanced with decent length and depth on a medium-bodied structure. Dry and stone fruit finish which is clean and textured. Ready to drink now and for the next 5 years. 92-93 pts

92/94 Consistant with previous note, elegant, whole bunch, lots of reduction, very delicate ... Palate may lack a touch of acidity to be a stunner, but still the wine shows well, and the fruit intertwined with soft tannins and salinity gives lots of complexity to a really accessible and excellent wine.

Day 1 Strawberries, roses, red plums, raspberries, charcuterie, forest floor. Medium tannins, medium + acidity. Beautifully structured and balanced tannins and acidity. Beautiful finish. Drink now or over next 8 years. 96+ Day 2 Very similar to the above note on day 1. However, everything seems a little more expressive and seamless. 96+ Note - this bottle had a bit of sediment at the end of the bottle. Something to consider.

Brilliant medium red color.Fragrant strawberry, floral, licorice aromatics. Vibrant character and near its peak. Stylistically, somewhere between Oregon and Burgundy for Pinot Noir. Mid-weight with medium length. Light tannins. Will easily hold and improve for 2 years. This is the first Tasmanian Pinot Noir that I can remember tasting. I’m impressed! Bought this at a wine store in Richmond, Tasmania while on a cruise to New Zealand and Australia. Packed in my suit case for my trip back to the …

This is a wonderful bright, air and chalky Pinot Noir from Tolpuddle, incredible floral notes, along with raspberry, cherries, crushed stones, black tea, asian spices and a touch of liquorice. The palate is bright, yet with concentration and depth, black tea, mineral and dark red berry fruit fill the palate. Impeccable balance and structure, light and brisk, The tannins are fine, with an elegant and lacy mid-palate this finishes with refreshing with mineral notes.

Translucent ruby hue. Nose of raspberry, cinnamon, violets, musky cellar. Layers of crunchy black cherry, tart dark raspberry, iodine, fine soil, and a bit of char on the pure, steely palate. Brilliant acidity and firm tannin. Longer finish of cinnamon. holiday spice, dark cherry, and astringent plum. Very young and primary with lots of upside.

Very pale red with reflections of ruby. Compellingly good New World Pinot Noir. This opens a bit sooner than previous bottles, and while there is still obvious reduction on the nose, it can't cover up the exceptionally pretty aromas of cranberry, redcurrant, red cherry, red flowers, sage, loamy soil, popcorn and nutty oak. On the palate this is light to medium bodied with medium+ acidity. This elegant and graceful but never feels thin or insipid, the texture here is expansive …

The colour is medium ruby. The intensity is medium (+). The aromas are rose, red cherry, red currant, strawberries, forest floor, mushrooms, meat. The wine developing. The wine has medium (+) acidity, medium tannins, the body is medium, the alcohol is medium. The intensity is pronounced with a medoum(+) finish. The flavours are rose, red cherry, red currant, strawberries, forest floor, mushrooms, meat and pepper. The wine is outstanding. Drink now but has potential for aging.

not blind First time I was surprised. Cool climate PN, maybe a hint to "made". Missing the edges of a Burgundy, decanted for one hour. Later on gets more individuality, some reluctant fruits, elegant and balanced. I don't know how this can age. 93

Nose on this really blossomed with a few hours of air, very bright and pretty. This is an enjoyable wine that is very drinkable right now. I'd say it's more new world styled but not over the top by any means, and very lovely. Medium ruby. It has an inviting and expressive nose. Savory, some oak, nice fruit. Bright fruit on the palate, getting more earthiness and savory element mid-palate. Fruit here comes off as smaller, tart berries to me, …

Really tight and tart night one, cutting minerality, citrus and flowers underneath. Night 2 was absolutely singing, fruit was more ripe and apparent, acid was reigned in and the wine showed perfect balance. Night 3, while still pleasant, lost too much of the verve and started to veer into fruit punch territory. Really great pinot for the money, but crack it open 24 hours ahead of time. This will age beautifully but no need to wait if you're thirsty now.

Had to give it a mark so far so NR High expectations on that one, which so far does not match really ! As much as the Chardonnay was really on point I cannot tell much about that Pinot, with loads of unripe elements, a bit of stalk but not on the good side of it, and I usually love the whole cluster pinot. It has a very interesting nose of reduction and smoke, almost like a lees chardonnay ... …

Pinot Noir at Moncur (Bistro Moncur, Sydney) : Even more reductive than the Shaw & Smith Pinot, supported by a little cherry, plum, oak, thickly concentrated on the palate, obviously very young but not for me on this taste. Time may help it move beyond this slightly monolithic phase

This wine is by far one of the most unique Pinots I have ever had. Right off the bat I get stewed strawberries and raspberries. Meaty fragrances of braised lamb, red licorice, and fresh tomato leaf shown through the fruit as you drink it. Hints of wet clay and red soil on the palate with fine clear tannins. Could use a couple more years in the cellar. Keep Guzzlin’

Superbly refined Tasmanian PN from new acquaintance Tolpuddle! Dark ruby and fully transparent, somewhat purple edges. Nose is meaty, lovely red fruitish - forest rasps and strawberries, hints of cherries, spice, earth and smoke. Palate, superb, is elegant, medium+-bodied, fine tannins, yet deep and clean, perfect dense juicy and v well balanced acidity. Bitter-spiced and excellent finish. A 100% joy to drink this Tasmanian wine.

Red currant, sour cherry and pomegranate. Brambles and chalk. Slight smokiness. Sappy and tangy. High acid. Powdery tannin. Stems. Very distinctive and pure. Only my second Tolpuddle PN (other was 2015), but both have had a similar, trademark flavour profile. Delicious, fresh and individual expression of pinot noir. It’s not burgundy. Nor yarra, or Mornington, or Oregon, or central Otago, or even generic tassie. It’s Tolpuddle vineyard. A lot excitement around this vineyard, which is still pretty new in the …

Ruby in the glass, quite deep for a Pinot Noir. Nose is driven by a basket of fruit - redcurrant, cranberry, blackberry, unripe plum. There's some oak influence here as well, but comes quite subtle, in form of caramel and vanilla. Medium-bodied, silky smooth with just a brush of tannins. Quite open and ready for business right now, but will definitely keep developing in the years to come. Love this Pinot.

Friday at the Strand (Strand Cellars, Croydon) : Pretty jubey fruit; cherry and strawberry over slight whole bunch, cedar. Juicy, surprisingly savoury, tannins are drying and, though quite smoothly textured, do rather close down the palate. Fruit plays second fiddle to these two components. Hmm

Pinot Noir beyond Burgundy with Richard Hemming MW (Zoom!) : 40% whole bunch, 9 mos in oak (33% new). Very proper, mineral nose, but a disproportionately massive, luxurious charge of ripe red fruit on the palate - cherry, rhubarb, crumble. A bit glossy.
