Matariki Quintology

Delicious, ripe fruit, black cherries with a little liquorice. Definitely the best Kiwi Bordeaux-style I've "cellared"

I was worried I missed the drinking window. Not a chance. One of the better wines I have had this year. Dark fruit, full body mouth feel, medium to long finish. A very balanced wine that I will surely look to purchase again.

Picked up at the winery in 2009. Raspberry, mixed berry mousse, smoky, lemon meringue pie and firewood pile nose. Refined and moreish. Good height on the mouth with bonox, cherries, fuji apples. Figs, matchsticks on a 90 second finish. Still going strong after 4 hours of opening. An outstanding food wine, nothing big but complex - somewhat reminiscent of a Rioja.

This is one of the bottles still hanging around the cellar from our honeymoon trip to New Zealand six years ago. Nice ruby color, still strong and young looking. Nose of black cherry, strawberry, currant, some forest humidity. Smooth mid-palate and finish of cherry, currant, quince, A bit tart on the finish, slightly acidic mouthfeel. Showing signs of age, but still giving. Would drink up.

Holding up pretty well in its old age. Drink now.

Complex flavors that took some time to open. Would try again.

Decanter about 1 hr to get the best taste. Strong fruit, not too dry or acidic.

Decanted for one hour, full bodied, a rich balanced bouquet of fruit mixed with oak with a complex structure of tannins. Excellent value at US$32.00 (Northern VA price)
