Dark but not inky. Intense black fruit scent. Rich blackerry flavor. Devoid of the typical black pepper aroma or flavor associated with Syrah. Spectacular with lunch Prime Rib. Superb.

Deep purple color with no aging tones. Dark berries on the nose. Nice balanced but not with a lot of length and not much tannins. Still very nice to drink.

1 hour decant, 62 F. Still a deep inky ruby color. A big lovely aromatic nose of dried meat, smoke, violets, raspberry and mint. Smooth tannins with a very slight velvety grip. Medium acidity. Oak and alcohol well-integrated. Medium body, but with a wonderful uplift that leaves the wine dancing lightly across the tongue. Blackberry, black olive, white pepper, savory tobacco, cranberry and blood iron on the delicious palate. Long, lingering savory cherry finish. Very fine light sediment. Hard to …

Slow oxed for three hours then 30 min decant. Nose of cherries, baking spices. Wonderful flavors of baked cherries, spices, meat juices, earth. More California vs the Cote Rotie we had side by side. Great bottle. Many years ahead drink thru 2028 at least.

Beef dripping and Marmite, cooked blackberries, burnt wood and a little alcohol heat on the aromas; the palate carries the same beefy notes, with cherry and cranberry added to the blackberries, fresher than the aromas and with less intrusive alcohol. This is in a fabulous place, a very fine bottle at its peak

Deep purple. On the nose aromas of black cherries, blackberries, cedar, smoke, toast, black tea, sweet tarragon, black pepper. On the palate the wine is dry with medium plus acid, medium plus fine ripe tannins, medium plus body and flavors of black cherries, blackberries, cedar, smoke, toast, black tea, sweet tarragon, black pepper, granite. Finish is layered w/black fruits and lingers. lovely outstanding wine, still can mature for many more years.

Damn! Initial attack of pure peppery Syrah. Expressive nose blackberry, earth and leather. With air it smoothed out to a velvety aged wine. Crimson color with some bricking at the meniscus.

First time tasting this wine. Was poured blind for me last night, and I was graciously given the final glass to take home so I could retaste it tonight. There is plenty of depth, fruit and acidity still very present after a decade, which makes for a tangy, dark and fruit driven glass of syrah. No fade at all. Charcoal, dark, rustic blackberry and black cherry. And my bet is that some portion of whole cluster was used in making …

Pop and pour. In the glass, deep, dark, saturated purplish-black. On the nose, currants, Meyer lemon, herbs, and coffee. On the palate, moderately tannic structure throughout, but there is ample black fruit here, along with elements of dried herbs, with a silky mid-palate texture and a tooth-staining finish. Still too young to get a good read on long-term evolution.

There are still some fine-grained tannins, but this has more or less resolved to a very balanced, smooth place - plums, pepper and minerals are working in harmony. I want to use the descriptor "comfortable". This is the kind of wine that doesn't necessarily demand your attention with the first glass, but by the last glass, you realize it's been delivering the goods all along.

Decanted for an hour before service. In the glass, deep opaque purplish-black. On the nose, blueberries, raspberries, saltwater, and fresh ground pepper. On the palate, lovely aged notes between cedar and mint, paired with blueberries, stone fruit, olives, and a touch of smoke, with a long, clean finish. Like the '09 Jack Robert's Run, this is definitely one of those "if I had known, I would have grabbed a case" wines - the depth and complexity of the aged notes …

P&Ped and no major decant required. Initially more of a dark fruit profile, but becoming lighter over time. There is lots of spice and herbal aromatics that amplifies the pleasure that the palate already provides with its fresh, fruity and well balanced offer. With less attention in a dinner setting I scored this 91 before, but taking the time to give this the attention it actually deserves.

No signs of slowing down, I am impressed by how well these 10-15 year old Dumol wines age. Plenty of juicy blackberry and black cherry fruit with pretty violets and other fragrant floral elements, in addition to a touch of graphite. Pure, supple and balanced although perhaps lacks a bit of complexity. So easy to drink. Well stored examples of this wine will age for a long time more.

No detailed notes taken. This is clearly reminiscent of a very good central Californian Syrah. Ripe black fruit, red currant, black currant, lots of dark cherries, Asian spices. Full-bodied, rich but silky and elegant in its richness. I like these Syrah but prefer the cooler, darker profiles of Northern Rhone or Washington Syrahs. Nevertheless, a very good wine, certainly worth 93-96 points. I was quite drunk at that point so I refrain from scoring this wine. Decanting: Spent 2+ hours …

Fabulously black red colour with viscous legs. Nose of black fruits and a hint of spice. Palate is really intense with black fruits, violets and that hint of something spicy (not immediately the classic pepper to my taste). There's loads of nice ripe tannins to give it body but not as much acidity as a N Rhone wine. Lovely finish where the more exotic flavours show and lots of length, 30 secs or more. What a very classy Syrah with …

This wine has aged perfectly and provided fitting company to bbq ribs, beed & chicken. I was prepared for a wine past its prime based on the previous review but found a surprisingly smooth syrah that was an easier drink than younger Dumol Syrahs but was also balanced and had enough body to match strong and smokey meats. Luckily I still have a bottle that I will drink within the next year but no rush as I feel this wine …

Annual Wine Group Summer Event - BBQ Brisket at Siggy's (Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN) : Very dark purple/red color. This had lots of black fruits, black raspberry, black currants, ripe, but a strong herbal streak throughout. I like the savory, smoked meats on the back end though. Woked with the brisket.

I'm not a fan of bruiser, new world Syrah. Especially in the $75 range. Too much gummy fruit and glycerin is not my cup of tea. This wine is something I purchased way back in 2010, when I thought collecting expensive poser wines was the way to go, and I've been cellaring ever since. I think time has been a good thing for this wine, as the big and burly edges were at least partially polished off with 9 yrs …

The Rotating Dinners, I.1: California Syrah (Chicago, IL) : Next to the 2002, I preferred this by quite a bit. There was a nice touch of floral aromas on the nose, and like the 2002, this didn't show any of the more feral characteristics of syrah. The palate had more fruit, though that was in balance with all the other earthy elements. I think it was the brighter disposition of this bottle, as well as a touch more acidity, that …

California Syrah (Webster Wine Bar) : Dark ruby. Yum, delicious aromatic of candied black cherry and plum with caramel and spice notes. Palate has rich and polished fruit with good underlying juicy acids. This clearly still has baby fat that the '02 tasted side-by-side had shed. But I see a lot in common between the two wines and expect this will shed it's baby fat and deliver a similar experience in 4-5 years. Should improve a touch though I doubt …

Decanted for one hour before service. In the glass, dark maroon with a purplish tint at the rim, black at the core. On the nose, currants and blackberries. On the palate, blackberry liqueur, plums, and oak, with some tannic bite on the finish. This opened up a bit after a couple of hours, but it still strikes me as somewhat one-dimensional.

Decanted 2 plus hour. It definitely needs a good decant as it had a little funk upon opening but blew off while sitting in the decanter. This wine paired incredibly well with our smoked brisket served with a thick sweet tangy BBQ sauce - a perfect pairing. It is a fun drinking Syrah with its layers of flavors and long finish. The wine is deep, brooding and inky with ripe sweet fruit of plum and figs, and smoked meat. Tannins …

Splash decanted. Aromatic with black fruit, pepper, and spice. Plush mouthfeel, with only some mild coarse tannins in the background. Concentrated palate of black and purple fruit. Moderate finish adding some coffee notes. With air became a little flat and muddled. Very good, but not great QPR. Not sure that further aging will help here.

(Tasted at the Ozzy Smack Down - a veritable sludge fest!) Chocolate syrup Syrah. Big, dark, dense, heavy, chewy. Balanced. Almost a desert wine, lol. No seriously, this is a wine that is just trying way to hard. Relax. Lighten up. Enjoy yourself. Go on a vacation to France and see how this grape should be handled.

This is a step up from the very good DuMol Syrah blend. It's concentrated, deeply dark fruity with excellent spicy Syrah flavor. The bonus is that the texture is almost thick and the finish is long. I didn't get the raw undeveloped sense the previous taster noted.

Deep purple color, bouquet of dark cherries w/ a little heat/alcohol....wine has excellent fruit, good acidity/structure and while the tannins are there they are pretty smooth. The alcohol is evident 14.5% but the finish is long and pretty smooth already for such a big 4 year old syrah.
