From a bottle purchased upon release and cellared under ideal conditions, this wine was decanted off of its substantial sediment and serially tasted over a three-hour interval. A blend of 38% Syrah, 34% Mourvèdre and 28% Grenache, it was aged for 20 months in French oak barriques (40% new). Deep-to-opaque garnet at this stage, it is aromatically effusive of dark bramble fruits, Morello cherries, Provençal herbs, licorice, black pepper and iron. Full-bodied and quite ripe, it nonetheless maintains an impressive …

- Garnet color - Deep garnet color. Rich aromas of dark red fruit. Surprisingly, first taste was dominated by smooth tannins. Let the wine open for 1 hr. And the fruit character really started to come through. When I opened this wine, I was expecting to find a wine well past its prime. I left half the bottle to sit out, sealed at RT for 24 hrs and it just got better. I remember fondly discovering Law with this wine …

Medium dark, purplish red color, color to the rim. Moderate aromas of lush raspberry, cherry and a hint of Carmel. Rich dark red fruit flavors with notable, supporting tannins. Long finish that lingers with leather. The wine was tight upon opening so I decanted and allowed it to breath for 1 hr. This made a huge difference. Minimal sediment. Wine is truly enjoyable now, but still could lay down in proper storage for 3-5 years.

P&P.......Wow! A really big wine. Enters the mouth in a rather thin, unobtrusive way, then explodes on the mid palate. Didn't want to swallow as the mouthfeel was amazing. A little hot, so some decanting may have helped. Long savory finish with tannins fairly resolved, but given the acid, this should cellar for awhile yet. Perfect companion for grilled meat!

- Brick color. It's somewhat balanced with a medium/full body with a medium finish - My last bottle, wish I had held off another year or so, tannins are still not fully integrated, but not too harsh. A very nice wine, opens up in the glass (I should have given it an hour or two decant).

Dark purple, alcohol on the nose along with rich purple fruit really just primary fruit on the nose. Med tannins and acidity. This is not balanced or nuanced at all really just primary fruit and a fair amount of oak. If you like high octane CA wine this is a well made example. From a fan of Scott’s wines especially Torrin and other Law wines this one is not one of the more complex or balanced wines. Drink now as …

Enjoyable now but I think the tannins will be full integrated in 2019. 2 hour decant will help. 15.9% ABV, 39% Mourvedre 35% Syrah, 26% Grenache

Whoa! Big hedonistic wine here. Give it a quick decant or let it sit for a couple hours after opening because it's pretty high octane from the beginning. Vibrant blackberry, boysenberry, and plum fruit with a predominance of earth, dried herbs, with a savory core (the Mourvedre really shines here). Great mouth feel to it, smooth tannins, long finish.

Huge rich earth and fruit flood your tongue and demand your attention. Dark plum and blackberry flavors dominate the fruit flavor along with spice. This wine has a rich wonderful mouthfeel and a really long finish. We had a wine group tasting of 2013 Paso rhone ranger wines and Sagacious was the winner in a very strong group of wines.

Decanted 30 min, initially very closed, didn't hit stride until about 2 hrs in. A little heat, warm blackberry, blueberry, toasted oak, very Paso style. Not my go to style of wine, but nice for what it is. If you enjoy new world, big fruit, lots of oak, nice ripeness then this should hit the spot for you. Decant for at least 2hrs, great with grilled red meat. 89-90

Abundant aromas on the nose with ripe fruit and allspice. Palate: granite, nutmeg, blueberries, and complimentary herbs. Medium-plus acidity, medium-plus tannins that linger. Slightly overpowering, possibly due to 15.9% alcohol.

39% Mourvedre, 35% Syrah, 26% Grenache. Color: medium-deep ruby core -> medium ruby/fuchsia rim. Gave this about 90 minutes in the decanter . . . bouquet of raspberries, roasted cherries, a little chocolate and some earthiness that was quite appealing. Red fruited and savoury palate with a touch of licorice and earth again. Nice transparency of fruit here with some tartness and a reasonably long finish. Tannins are noticeable but fine; probably needs 2-3 years to peak though it's certainly …

Similar notes as before, though seemed to retain its alcoholic heat a bit longer. I recommend serving this around 62° as that seems to tame its bite. Enjoyed more as a cocktail wine prior to dinner at Joe's Stone Crab.

Big, fruity Paso GSM. Loads of blackberry on the nose and palate with excellent minerality. Silky mouthfeel with a long finish. Opened up a bit hot (which isn't surprising with 16.1% alc.) but that tamed after about 30 minutes decanting. Continually improves with air. Figured I would pop one of these before the 2012s are released in about a month.

This is a wine with brooding fruit that deserves to contemplated over an evening. Raspberry coulis, white pepper nose with a lingering mid palate and finish dominated by blackberry and blueberry fruits with some earth. A lovely wine that's sure to get better over the next 2 years, but if you like big complex, fruit forward wines there is no reason to wait with a half hour or more of air.
