Deep ruby. Again, quite a dense, initially tight feel to this, relaxing over a couple of hours in bottle. Very Gevrey again, earthy, meaty, muscular. Similar density to the Charmes, just a bit more density to the velvet. Grip and length. Excellent. ****

A little less oomph than what I'd typically like in this appellation, but lovely fruit forward finish (mind you after 10 years in the bottle that's pretty impressive), and tertiary notes are just starting to come through, I believe will be better in 5 years

This is drinking well. Medium red, great acidity, freshness, great dark fruit flavours with a moderate tannic spine. Takes about an hour for this wine to show its stuff. An enjoyable wine now. This is light bodied but it does provide great fruit flavours and good length. Will this wine add more complexity and weight on the palate with time and show more characteristics of a Chambertin? As enjoyable as it is I believe not.

Very light ruby. Nose of red fruit and spices. Light on the palate with fine tannins. Still needs to develop some tertiary notes but otherwise lovely. Was a bit too thin for some folks on the table, more like 1er Cru density but elegant.

Bottle breathing for an hour then served in a decanter. Still quite young for 2011, nose gives some green steamy character but in a pleasant way. Palate needs more time to be accessible. Tannin is still noticeable but became more harmonized after 2 hours. Will probably be better in a couple of years.

Pascal Marchand Vintner Dinner (Les Amis, Shaw House, Singapore) : The first of the two wines made from Maume grapes. This was by some distance the best wine of the night for me. The Charmes-Chambertin that was served alongside was probably more ready and giving in its youth, but this was the more serious of the two. I liked the nose here, with its sweet cherries and raspberries and flowers wed to little accents of earth and bacony meat and …
