I shared this with my wine group at a Napa Cab night. We had in order, the 2015 Outpost Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Rudius Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard, the 2016 TOR Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja and the 2016 Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley. The Outpost was my 2nd favorite of the night, a good mix of spice and fruit, on a not quite full bodied wine. Long finish. Great structure.

PNP. Fruit has faded on what is left is tannin with a super dry, burnt finish. These wines are made for early drinking and not ageing. Decided to decant and it became more fruity but still dry. Drink up. At least it’s lost it’s sweetness but what is left isn’t better.

A delicious restrained (for TRB) wine that has probably mellowed and matured with age. Great to pair with beef.

Excellent. Pnp undesirable - first glass was massive fruit and alcohol. Recorked and drank 2nd night after an hour decant. It settled down considerably, becoming softer and more integrated with a lengthy finish. Last glass was superb. Full bodied, dense dark fruits - ripe sweet blueberry, dark red cherries, very creamy mid-palate texture, moderate tannins. Went well with bbq teriyaki chicken thighs.

Opened but not decanted. Inky dark color with no sign of bricking yet. Dark and blue fruits on the nose, followed on the palate with addition of black cherry, violet and cassis. No hurry here. Throwing a ton of sediment - a decant wouldn’t hurt.

I’ve been drinking CA Cabs since the 1974 Vintage so my palate has been set from these early classic wines and also by Bordeaux. These over ripe, fruit bomb CA Cabs are a new phenomenon and I get some people like them but I just don’t nor will I ever like them. People should drink what they like and now Bordeaux is over 60% of my cellar because that’s what I like. I just don’t think Cabernet Sauvignon should be …

Like my last note, nice dark purple/ blue color with a nose of violets and cedar. On the palate, bold, nice balanced composed of black and blueberry fruit, black cherries, currants and plums. I would call this wine medium to full-bodied wine with some backbone and smooth tannins. 92+/93 Points

Slow Ox 5 hours. Big bold mountain blueberry with light tannins. I get it - a lot of folks aren't in love with fruit forwards singular expression. I knew this from prior experience and wasn't disappointed.

PNP- consumed over two sittings on two consecutive days. Ripe and plush this wine is loaded with blue fruit goodness. Outpost was one of my early favorites when I started buying wine but I have since moved away from these modern expressions. A bit more fresh and focused than 14. 16 Outpost Estate is on deck next. 94 Drink or hold.

Decanted, then back in the bottle for two hours before thanksgiving dinner. Big, bold dark fruited wine, firm tannins, decent finish. Typical Howell mountain cab. A bit more acidity would have helped. Still a bit heavy on the palate

Day 1: Good stuff, popped and poured. With 2/3's of a bottle remaining there should be more to say about this wine. Day 2: Showing well and much like before, yet nicely balanced composed of black and blueberry fruit, black cherries, cassis and plum notes. I detect a hint wood/ cedar too. Overall, 94+/ 95 Points.

Dark crimson in color. 14.8% ABV. Stunning nose of blue and black fruits, licorice, leather and graphite. Medium to full bodied with perfect acidity. Plush and concentrated. Well balanced. Blueberry, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and earth on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish with incredibly silky tannins. Awesome Cabernet Sauvignon that is aging brilliantly. With mountain fruit and a great vintage I suspect this will age well for years to come. Best over the next 4-6 years.

I drank a 2014 Outpost Cab a couple of months ago and this was significantly better. Dark purple in color with a big nose of blackberry, blueberry, and vanilla. I gave this a 2 hour decant and drank over another 3 hours. I thought this was best at the 3 hour mark. Usually 5 years is a minimum for me to drink a Howell Mountain wine but this was pretty smooth for the size of this wine. Outpost is one …

This wine continued to open up over the course of 4-5 hours but was tasty from pop and pour. No decant. Black Currant and Howell Mountain spice. A savory sweetness with a long finish and fine tannins. Probably my favorite "regular" bottling of cabernet from Outpost since their 2009. Trying to let the True Vineyards gain more bottle age so decided to open this. Certainly not disappointed and wish I had gone deeper on these.

Had an odd experience with this bottle. Mentioned this in comments in reply to WineBurrowingWombat's review of the '14 True Cab, but posting here with more detail. I think this bottle may have been corked. On the first night I could not shake the sense of that taste over 1+ hours. As is my usual failing, this was a PnP. Overall this bottle was quite one dimensional throughout the wi dow and felt not at all like the bottle I …

So I had this tonight at what I would call it .... "early mid life". Tonight again it is a Viscous rich and berry laden juice. Aromas are of freshly picked and crushed blackberry and a mouthfeel of viscous juice to match. This wine has a lingering finish of crushed berry and is quite a value wine for the quality compared to cost.

Get together with some friends. Dark purple fruit - blackberry, dark currants/cassis, and a little blueberry. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration - medium plus body. Nice flavors of dark berries, some spice/licorice, and a mineral/graphite component. Fairly long finish but just a little tart. Popped/poured but drank over a couple hours. Improved a little with time. Enjoyable at this stage but ideally I believe this vintage needs another year or two for the fruit to soften/open-up some more. - although …

Very good. Mostly Consistent with previous note. Very thick on pnp. Recorked and moved on. On day 2 it was in beautiful place. Could definitely use more time in the bottle. Like 3-4 years more. My score this time a point lower than last time. Probably simply due to subjectivity and poor timing. Drinking this bottle 2 days after the '13 Kata Beckstoffer Bourne wasn't exacrly setting the Outpost up for a wow moment. But even having said that, it …
