We're in a war??? (The house of Simmons) : Blind - What happened to this? Off bottle maybe? Tannins just took over on this bottle. Super mouth drying to the point where nothing else could be discerned in the wine. Went back to it 4 hours later and it improved a tad, but not much more. Give this some more timelike 5-10 more years. I have one bottle left and I will just simply forget this bottle for a while.

I didnt find this as big as I expected. It has some structure with mineral notes, and I definitely pulled a blood orange note off of this wine. What suprised me was that while its tannic the body is a bit lean which suprised me. This is pretty good and Id guess it will improve with a few vintages.

Splash double decanted 18 hrs (overnight) and it unfurled within 30 min of serving. Dense deep ruby with thin maroon/garnet rim. 👃🏻 mountain herbs, blooms into mushrooms after swirling in glass, soil 👅 black cherry, licorice, graphite, dark chocolate with powdery tannins and 35 sec finish This has evolved since tasting the bold tannic wall initially with Mr. Bittner in LA, with layers demonstrating MacDonalds deft hand now apparent. I do think it will evolve more over the years as …

I felt so bad for my host, Agelvis who suffered some cellar melt down....his first bottle of this one opened today was heat damaged so down the drain it goes. A big loss. This bottle had a pristine cork and was beautiful with a 10 hour double decant plus another 3-4 hours tableside slow oxing in the bottle. Dark, opaque magenta in the glass. Initially there was a slight incense to the nose along with some barrel spice note. The …

Ten hour double decant. Very deep dark ruby magenta color. Dark chocolate, caramel brittle, cassis, and minerality. Very smooth, dry palate, with slightly chalky acidity. Firm, velvety tannins on the long finish. This is wonderfully built and absolutely needs two more years to comfortably get into its drinking window. Even so, it was fun to drink with fellow wine lovers a few nights ago.

I'm not finding this to be brooding or overly tannic, as suggested by AG. With that description I think of a Howell Mountain Cab, which I wouldn't think of drinking this young. This opened up pretty quickly to nice dark and red fruits, chocolate, licorice. Lacking some in body and finish but possibly will gain in time.

2025 Macdonald Vertical (Proxi Restaurant) : Double decanted 12 hours. My second time trying this one. From Ecotone Vineyard and made by Graeme MacDonald. I know i'm a 19 fanboy but I do love this one. Has great structure given the hillside location but still shows the 2019 enthusiasm. I'd have no problem drinking this now but of course would recommend you give it several more years depending on how you like them. Pure cab flavors with no bitterness or …

MacDonald vertical (Chicago, IL) : Definitely a step down in quality from the MacDonald alongside. This doesn't have the fruit presence of its bigger brother -- it's a little cooler, so the structural elements and oak seem to stick out much more, without that cushion of fruit to blend everything together.

A nice CS effort. Nothing spectacular, but no major liabilities either. No need to get any more though.

Good Wine with an Almost Interesting Super Bowl (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL) : Small glass. Another opulent wine that manages to keep it together despite both sweet and warm hints. Retains its balance well, good+ length, very good weight.

A quick Coravin pull of this wine on a whim doesnt disappoint. There is a sense of polish and refinement here that really brings it to the next level. It is medium bodied, which I usually hate saying without context because it sometimes translates to less than in some Napa fans minds. However, its more about the immediate sense of balance and cadence of controlled flavor expansion that are of worthy note. It doesnt smack you in the face with …

Unfortunately, I don't have notes or details. This was opened after dinner at the French Laundry in a sprinter van on our way home. We had a wonderful meal and fantastic wine pairing. So no notes.....

Five hour decant. Very very deep intense magenta color. Bitter chocolate, cassis, blueberry, rye, and amaretto cookie, along with subtle cracked pepper and cedar. Very smooth and very dry. Nice, gritty acidity. Firm, sleek tannins on the long finish. This baby is built. Its drinking a touch tight, even with a healthy decant. Id aerate for 12+ hours if drinking now. I hope to wait at least another year for my next bottle.

Friday Night Uptown Brown Bagger (R&D's) : Blind. Dark opaque color. Aromas of graphite, black cabernet fruit, mocha, dried herbs and bay leaf. Theres nice complexity in the bouquet considering how young this is (its fairly easy to pick this out as our 001 in this flight). Full-bodied and firm, with chalky tannins and an abundance of black fruit. It develops coffee and floral elements with a bit more time in the glass. A couple of other tasters comments: pretty …

Decanted at 10:45a in advance of our tasting tonight and I poured a half ounce to taste right out of the gate. There's just a little bit of sediment in this one. Deep ruby crimson color. Blueberry, black raspberry, graphite and blackberry notes. Hints of chocolate underneath. Full-bodied with fine, elegant tannins and flavors of macerated red berries, blackberry and blueberry. Abundant fruit; coiled/structured. We'll see how it does in tonight's blind tasting- should be served about +/- 9.5 hours …

Tasted after a five-hour decant. What a beautiful baby! To my palate, this feels more like a Pauillac than a Napa cab, with cedar and pencil-lead sharing the front stage with black fruits. The palate resembles the nose, and a healthy acidity keeps things lively in the face of a dense bramble of tannins. No mistake, this is _such_ a baby. It needs years, and/or a day's decant, to live up to its promise.

Tasted at 001 Dinner hosted in LA by Jack. Double decanted about 3 hrs prior to serving. 2019: the most young of all 3. Powerful, brooding 100% new oak. Black fruit, cassis, chocolate, a bit dusty and earthy. Complex, integrated tannins and mouthfeel. Could use another 5+ years on cellar. 14.6%. A LBB. Or a 12hr double decant.

Thank God for good friends The Cyclist brought this gem to a local BYO on a Wednesday night, and it was the clear fav amongst a group of Napa Bordeaux blends. Rich, savory, complex, with terrific density and fine tannins. It is clearly a baby, but the purity of fruit just rocks! Cassis, black raspberries, chocolate, anise, and more. CS/CF/PV from the old Abreau site ( thorevilos, now Ecotone) bordering Saint Helena, crafted by Graeme MacDonald

Deep garnet-purple in color, it bursts from the glass with lilacs, dark chocolate, ripe black and red cherries, and licorice notes plus hints of cedar. Medium to full-bodied, finely grained, and elegant, the palate offers an intensity of crunchy black and red fruits, finishing long and fragrant.

Method: 4 hour decant; Cab glass Nose: Cigar box, graphite, blackberry, dry dirt, clove, faint green pepper Palate: blackberry, graphite; finish of soil, graphite, dry herbs, dry; medium+ body; medium+ tannin; medium+ acidity Overall thoughts: This certainly isnt a flamboyant, very modern styled Napa wine. It comes off as a bit more serious. This reminds me of a Left Bank Bordeaux with a just a bit of that Napa polish/refinement and maybe just a touch more ripeness (but nowhere remotely …

Tasted with Jack over some pre-dinner nibbles. Made by Graeme MacDonald from Ecotone vineyard (former Abreu thorevilos). Just my opinion, but this wine will shine in 15-20 years. Right now it showed powerful fruit with profound structure and a notable savory earthen character. I would not say it straddles the line between new and old worldrather, it distinctly shows some new world qualities side by side old world qualities. Like one foot on each side of the door. Wait 5 …
