Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots

Had a small taste immediately after opening, and it felt a bit austere and one dimensional. So grabbed the decanter immediately, decanted and left for the next couple of hours. Hour later, it had softened up, and started to open up and show earthy characteristics with a big, deep broad palate of red and dark fruits. Darkish red cherries, sweet plum fruit and earth. For a Grivot, it is giving and expressive but lack of excitement and complexity.

Needs much more time. To green at this point. Probably lots of potential

Grivot really nailed 2009, and this Suchots was no exception. Depth. I am reaching the conclusion that the emphasis on expression of terroir may be a bit overstated. The expression of the vintage may be just as if not more important, time being more expressive than space in wine.
