2012 vintage

Looking at notes below, this is no longer a “delicate” wine. It’s picked up intensity with blue black and purple fruits, pepper, and grip. Great with bbq, grilled meats, and other big flavors. Great qpr. After 2.5 hrs, the grip smoothes out a touch and the wine becomes more balanced where you could have without food. The next day, picked up some lack olive notes and remarkedly improved. Lots of air here. Double decant in am.

Dark ruby bordering on purple. A dark, brooding Châteauneuf smelling of blackberry, black cherry, spicy bay leaf and rosemary. Big, ripe and hot on the palate, the 15% alcohol becomes a distraction. Flavors of black cherry, black tea and sweet smoked herb lead into a grippy, mouth-drying finish.

We worried that this 375 was past its prime, but with 15 minutes of air, it sang a Grenache song of its people. Black Raspberry and Kirsch filled the nose and palate; it was rich, without seeming candied or port-like.

Medium ruby, bright reflections. Poured at 55F - starts out shy with faint garrigue on the nose, bright red fruit on the palate and chunky tannins. As the wine warms up, the alcohol (and slight VA) becomes noticeable, as are spiced raspberry, burnt herbs, black olives, lavender and game. Some astringency on the finish. Complex and deeply concentrated flavors. Bold, perhaps a smidgin over the top, but enjoyable.

Pretty good bottle of CDP (from 375). Deep red fruited nose, nice entry was surprisingly smooth, kirsch at first with barnyard coming strongly to the fore after an hour. Somewhat hollow on the mid palate. Very good finish is long with plenty of fine grain tannin.

- Ruby color - Jam, luscious, velvety and classic. Coats the glass and tongue with legs and smooth fruit. Not rich in tannins, but reminds me of the fruit in a fabulous pastry.

Opened to enjoy on the porch while grilling as I recall this being somewhat of a tough bruiser with lots of alcohol. I was right, but the remains a day later were really lovely in a classically Chateauneuf way - so much raw rubbed sage/rosemary/yerba santa, sweetly fruited but not liqueur-like, actually fresh. If I had another I'd give it plenty of air if it seemed dense and clunky because it needn't be that way.

I liked this much better this time around. Lots of garrigue, mineral, and lavender with a solid backbone of tannins behind it. It did not come across as particularly sweet or fruit driven, which increased the interest in it.

Dark color with a lighter meniscus around the rim. Aroma of macerated dark cherry and kirsch. In the mouth, add some anise and herbs, and a long finish with all the flavors and some noticeable tannins. Agree, no hurry (from a 375ml).

This performed well. In balance and good structure. Not the knockout that was advertised, but you can do a lot worse for your 30 clams. No need to wait further. This was not decanted, and it didn't change much over the evening.

2006 vintage

From memory. Deep garnet, the palate show a little heat, but mostly savory sweet black and blue fruit. Dark and rather heavy duty CdP, clean and well-made, just overbearing for my taste.

Densely-packed nose of dark fruit, olives, floral earth, sweet anise, and black pepper. The nose felt fairly tight at this point, but it was clear that this wine packs some pretty serious concentration. Palate was exceptionally smooth and well-balanced.

Popped and poured. Nose: dried cherries, barnyard and earth. Palate: Lush, silky, sensuous and concentrated. Cherry jam, blueberries, dusty vanilla and a hint of burnt toast on the finish. Low acid and medium+ tannin. The finish is a minute long. Young but immensely enjoyable. All the reasons I like CdP.

Another bottle given a lot of air, and that mellows it out ever so slightly, but still a big, silky, bruiser with a good deal of alcohol. Meh.

I served this alongside a 2007 Garagiste CdP just to make it fair. Indeed, this outshone the 07 in the sense that it was only unbearably overdone. That's sad, because 06 was a great vintage, but why someone would single this out as a great wine from the vintage is beyond me. Silky palate, but with plenty of boozy red and black berry liquor. Rich and ripe.

Day before Thanksgiving. Opened about an hour before drinking. Powerful wine. Black fruit and charcoal on the palate. A bit monolithic at this point. Could improve with time as some nuance comes out.

Full bodied, plush, open and displaying ripe black cherries, kirsch liqueur, garrigue and spice in the nose, the wine is lush and carries it's ripe, old vine fruit intensity all the way through.

2009 vintage

Consumed over 2 days (vacuvined), note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness, pine, pencil lead, blueberry, and black cherry. Palate: Medium bodied, sour cherry up front, good acidic back-bone, ripe red fruit and metal shaving flavors appear thru the back-end. Finish: Medium length sense of ripe red fruit and spearmint.

Popped and poured from a 58 degree cellar. (375 mL) Smells of intense dark cherry and garrigue. Tastes of ripe Grenache and cherry fruit cloaked in a robe of garrigue. Big, Complex and interesting. Opens up with air. Has years to go.
