From a minibottle. On the nose toffee and mineral notes. Full bodied, robust and rich, showing toffee, figs and minerals with a long and hot finish. The best whisky I’ve ever tasted!

Complex, winey, fig, earth, polished leather, caramelized sugar, and dried citrus nose. Dry and warming palate with bold nut and dried fruit flavours; firm alcohol presence at 46.3%; toasty, evolving finish. 4.5/5

Called Bunnahabhain blind. Sweet maple, praline, leather, mild salt, clearly a sweet sherry cask and a lot of cask influence. Finishes sweet and slightly medicinal.

2003 vintage

Salty maritime nose, wood smoke, sweet toffee and dried fruit, Lovely coastal freshness on the palate, peppery and spicy, citrus fruit, toffee, touch of nuts and vanilla. Delicious whisky. Mixture of bourbon, oloroso and rum cask whiskies.

Second bottle convinced me, but I had to consume very slowly and wait for weeks and months before this came into its own. Loads of vanilla, acacia honey and powder sugar and some distant potentilla erecta. The peat is pretty feisty. It is youthful but in a good way.

Sampling some whisky drums with friends in Asia. No one had this on the radar and it was right up there with Glendronach 21 to take the evening's trophy. We liked it more than the MacAllan 18. Nose of nuts, smoke, oak and seet spices. Very smooth on the palate, balanced with measured smoke emerging on the finish. Nice!

Im struggling to find the Bunna signature in this. Nice malty flavours and milk chocolate notes on the finish. Solid whisky but I won’t be revisiting this one.

1997 vintage

Spice, vanilla, very slight peat in a seaside way. Quite rich though, slight smoked bacon/charcuterie, honey, spicy, pretty but a little too 'sweet' on the palate for me.

Purely Ex bourbon matured, methinks, and very reminiscent of the Finlaggan Old Reserve , so that could be Bunnahabhain in fact, although it isn't as oily as I remember the Finlaggan. Tropical fruit, citrus, yellow apple, a touch of tweed/wet dog, fresh, peaty, dry. A bit too young for my taste, slightly “metallic”, but otherwise excellent. Fun stuff !

on the nose you get buttered biscuit and stone fruit. On the palate it's got mild fruit with a touch of peat. Really satisfying on the nose and palate but only had a 1/4 oz sample. Wish I had more! As a whole, this is as subtle as an Islay can get and it drinks very mildly.

Medium brown-orange color. Rich woody aromas, smells of macerated fruit, molassess, cocoa, and a lingering vegetal note. The palate is smooth and round with a lingering woody finish, but not much stands out in the way of specific flavors. Tastes more like a sherried Speyside malt than anything from Islay. Somewhat underwhelming.

Whisky-Club sample, round 1, sample 3. With Darryl. This whisky was medium amber in colour and offered orange, butterscotch, nuts, seaweed and maritime notes as well as hints of sherry, smoke and leather/tar on the nose. Nutty, with malt and hints of caramel, vanilla and smoke on the palate, with subdued underlying fruit. A light golden colour. Sweet, fresh floral aroma. Medium body, with a rounded, nutty sweetness and a light finish.

5/25/2015: funny, now that I had tried it in combination with Weißbier over the weekend , today it shows a certain beer note in itself. Interesting. Light for an Islay. Smoky, with a thin midpalate. The finish however is distinctive and very pleasant; some chocolate and vanilla, and a pronounced note of smoking/burning juniper wood, with maybe a little bit of country ham. It's very Bourbon-like, and had I tasted it blind, I might have thought it a Bourbon!! I caught it on a bin-end sale for $31 so I guess I did all right.

Goes down far too easily. I've only opened this twice now since I bought the bottle, and already half of it is gone. My favorite $50 Islay at the moment. Really digging the flavors and smoothness here.

I can't totally wrap my head around the Bunny. Why make an Islay without peat? Sure, the honey texture and sea notes are great, but when tasted alongside Duncan Taylor Bunny 12 with peat, I prefer it with peat.
