if you can imagine an easy drinking bordeaux blend wine made in an Italian way in a nice warm italian climate then you already know if you will like this. perfect for those 'shall we have another bottle of wine?' moments. for immediate enjoyment. nice for the price but lacking substance.

Medium garnet. Cherry, wild strawberry, blackberry, liquorice and vanilla on the nose. Good acidity. Grippy tannins. Long. From a double magnum.

Surprisingly good value for price point. High on fruit, low tannus. Hint of spice. Paired with Roast chicken.

If the SAQ’s notes are correct, and this is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Sangiovese, then wow does terroir ever speak multitudes here. Sour cherry is the dominant fruit, with some cedar, and a bit of strawberry. Tannin and acidity both ample, and fuelling this wine’s wonderful food pairing powers.

Heat of the vintage was quite well managed. Not stewed at all and in fact it feels like they tried to keep it cool. Was a touch lean cool high tone and classy in the usual Montesodi way. Decent now but not sure if this is performing like Montesodi usually does. Will try the next in a few years

Was able to source a couple more bottles of this, which is currently my favourite Chianti. Much like my previous bottles - fully mature, although it does need a little air to soften the tannins a bit more. Beautiful sweet fruit. Drinking perfectly now and probably has room to age although I don't think it will get any better.

Decanted for about 30m. Black cherry, cigar humidor, earthy, black pepper, leathery. Found it also had a touch of sweetness which seemed a little out of place for this wine style.

Still pretty dark. Ripe and spicy nose, plus a little minty, a touch of wood, and cocoa powder. Quite complex. Sweet fruit, and the woody/spicy notes again on the palate. A bit of prune as well. Soft tannins and good length. Very nice with some sausages and spaghetti pomodoro. Probably at peak now. Sadly, the best and last bottle of the half dozen I had.

Dark garnet in color. Nose of black cherries and hint of leather. Tastes of dark cherries and hints tobacco. Rather simple but nice fruit and pleasant drinking. Just past prime. Drink now and over the next 2 years.

Definitely a bad bottle,(bought from a wine shop in Italy a year ago) drinkable wine but far from bringing the pleasure I was expecting, will blame the storage :(

Decanted for two hours. Very dark colour. Not totally over the hill but the fruit was a bit missing so I would drink up if you have any.

Den Blinde Hane#7 (Hos Leif) : D1h. Very dark garnet red, thin yellow rim, 6. Spicy complex bouquet, prunes, cherry, casks, mature sweetness. Racy harmonious palate, still sa fair portion of tannin, juicy finish. Drink now - onwards ( no hurry)

A bit of oak can still be felt on the nose, which is otherwise quite compact, with some hints of tertiary development. Dark colored and powerful, bold wine on the palate, this benefited from being drunk at cellar temperature, but as soon as it warmed up a bit it became too static. Still tannic, this can go on for some more years, but the modern style is preventing it from developing in interesting directions.

This is fine, and holding on well, but at this point I prefer the Selvapiana Buericiale over this.

EWS: A Study of Sangiovese with Ian D'Agata : Appealing aroma of dark fruits, wood. Red berries, cedar, cola on the palate. Chewy and sweet overall, with taste of plums, earthiness, licorice. Very good.

I opened this 2 hours before and served at 16 C. Great Chianti with its classic acidity and Sangiovese fruit. Was great with tomato sauce flat pizza and Italian cold cuts, red olives and arugula salad. Perfecto! Did not love this wine a few years ago but with some age this is now drinking beautiful ;)

This wine is transformed with the right food. Decanted for a couple of hours before and it was still closed and a bit underwhelming before dinner. We then moved on to the food (stuffed chicken with pork and basil). And the wine transformed into something really special. This may be behind the wide range of views

An amazing Chianti, very complex and quite 'huge' - Dark, full bodied with a nose of plum, cherry, earth, flowers and vanilla, very well structured and balanced, great acidity and contrasting smoothness on the palate with excellent length, fabulous (91 Points).

Decanted 1hr. Deep purple, opaque. Medium nose of brown sugar and cherry. Palate was a bit closed. Seemed to have low acidity, low fruit. Tannins still strong, long finish. May be entering a dull phase. Youthful energy and oak seemed to be gone, but to the eye it looks young. Maybe it was just an off bottle.

Classic big Chianti. Deep purple with some signs of aging along rim. Blackberry, currants and cassis on the somewhat muted nose. Big mid-palate with plenty of fruit. Tannins have softened and the finish is smooth (if a bit short). Went nicely with a red sauce and some spice.

Decanted 2 hours. Big and powerful, with plumb/dark cherry fruit. Hints of licorice, dried herb and lemon rind. Can tell there must be a little Merlo in this but mainly sangiovese. Distinctfully Tuscan nose. Comming together fairly well but still young. This will stand up to any steak you throw at it. Like it, but I am not in love yet. Schedule another date in a few years, this will only get better. Drink 2014-17.

Deep red center, red rim with some slight signs of age. Smooth ripe plum confit nose, cherries and brambles, rosemary. Sweet entry, subtle oak, sangiovese acidity, smoked cherries, herb notes with fennel, good length that combines slightly sour red fruits with fresh herbs. Outstanding chianti, I'd forgotten how good this wine could be, drinking well now but will last a few more years with no problem.
