A private dinner (Restaurant Christiaan Smit, Amsterdam, NL) : Impressively complex nose, quintessential Brunello, lifted (without any sense of volatility) and deep, flowers and dried herbs, earth and leather, cranberries and a whiff of currants, hint of cold ash, balsamic aspect from the long wood ageing; serious but at the same time remarkably playful palate, concentrated but elegant and light on its feet (13.5% ABV, modest in context), beautiful freshness, hint of chocolate, refined velvety tannins; long and dancing finish …

2015 Paradiso Brunello Riserva Really gorgeous aroma. Wild flowers, cranberries, sour cherries, prune, freshly cut herbs and noticeable undergrowth, nutmeg and sweet spices, tar and smoke, earth and leather. Ethereal and lifting at 13.5%. Complex flavours developing from the focus mid palate. Light weight but concentrated long finish. So much depth here. I already love the way it is at present.
