Christoffel-Berres Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Kabinett

This was our 4th and sadly, final bottle of this fantastic Riesling. We brought it to Lotus of Siam for my wife birthday tonight to pair with some of the spicier dishes. It was drinking wonderfully right out of the bottle with lemon lime notes and a bit of macadamia nut. A tad of petrol and a hint of toasted Carmel. I wish we had more as this is a neat treat.

Flawed

My last bottle of this, and I wish I had another case. An amazing Riesling with no end in sight. Pairing with pork chops and saeurkraut was perfect.

Tremendously fresh for its age, yellow apples. great minerality

Medium gold color. Aromas and palate of yellow apple, quince, peach, apricot, honey, saffron, ginger, petrol, mango, pineapple, dried orange peel, honeysuckle, orange blossom, grapefruit, Meyer lemon, and hazelnut. Medium sweet, medium-plus acidity, medium body, medium alcohol. Pronounced intensity and medium-plus finish. Exceptional quality. Can drink now but will benefit from aging. Wow!

Super super interesting wine on arais night with Tom and fam. Cork came out in pieces but a quick filter and decant cleared up most of the debris. Beautiful honey color and really strong petrol smells on the nose that gradually faded as the night wore on and were even more subdued the next day after a corked night in the fridge. Thank goodness for my “ah-so” opener and strainer. Cork was disintegrating, but wine was still surprisingly fresh. Color is a true gold. Nose shows acacia flowers, lemon oil and slate. An explosion of flavors on the palate. Honeysuckle, crushed slate, lemon, grapefruit, baked peach and apple, nuts...the more you drink, the more you taste! A rich mouthfeel, and an undercurrent of acidity from start to the long, long finish. Tried with Spicy Indian food, but would probably have gone better …

I chose this to kick off my birthday dinner. It went very well with wasabi pea crusted salmon and with the Meyer lemon pound cake desert (both creations from my lovely bride). About as food friendly as anything out there and damn good. Again, lemon and lime with a little chalkiness and macadamia nuts galore. Possibly a little tangerine oil on the nose with white flowers. One of my favorite white wines in memory. A fantastic experience!

I hazard placing a score on this but not because it isn’t awesome because it is. A wonderful relative freshness. Some citrus (lemon and lime) but with a creamy nuttiness. A stellar pairing with Rogue River Blue Cheese and then with a mango, jalapeño chicken dish. Fantastic
