Nice deep purple color in the glass. Oak and vanilla dominate the nose. The wine was smooth on the palate with the typical characteristics of merlot but with a little more backbone (from the 15% cabernet I presume). All in all an enjoyable wine with beef - and it delivered a taste experience that I would expect from a $20-ish bottle of red from the northern end of the Napa Valley.

GV gave it 79 and bashed it for too much oak. I just didn't see this as an "oak monster". The wine reminded me of a pleasant, but uninteresting Bordeaux and there certainly was more oak than you would normally taste in a French wine.
