Leather, iodine, salt water, herbs, cherry and cherry compote, remnants of tannin. The bitter finish is a little too aggressive. This is very good, savory-sweet, but mostly savory. Has an old school vibe. Edit 10/24: Decanted for an hour and drunk most of the bottle over the course of another hour on day one. Stuck the last glass in the fridge and had it tonight with leftovers. Bitterness gone. Still has the old-school thing going. Went from being comfortably good …

probably waited too long on this....over the hill like characteristics. rust colored, dead fruit...gains weight and color over a few hours...but disjointed at best. perfectly stored after retail purchase. I have better luck when I drink "normal" brunellos within 8 - 10 years of vintage

Nice wine even after 14 years. Classic Sangiovese burnt brick color. Notes of cherries and tobacco. Medium bodied and high acidity. Rather straight laced. Enjoyable but not memorable.

Bright red fruit, quiet fresh, some minerality and spice, and ample acidity. Lively, balanced and elegant. Showing well now, but has some time ahead of it. An excellent bottle and good value.

Good, not great, but perfectly legit with our homemade brick oven pizza night. More towards bright cherry fruit than the dark berries we got from our earlier Brunello, so a nice contrast and nice with dinner.

Superior to my bottle 3 years ago. Clean and precise, but this wine is not too modern and has no vanilla flavors. Bright red cherry, mushrooms, leather, earth, in some ways like a gevrey. Drinking young and alive. A great vintage and a great producer. One bottle left. Please forget for 5 years.

Very pleasant. Decanted, but poured a glass immediately to sip while cooking, then drank with and after dinner over 4-5 hours. Silky from the first glass. Not terribly complex, but solid and quite enjoyable, before, during and after dinner. Fruit seems to be fading a bit on this last glass, but maybe my palate's just getting tired. Drink now, but there should be no danger in holding for a year or two more. (Update: what the heck, there was no …

At the front end of its drinking window, this needs about 90 minutes to open up. Once it does, it has lovely ripe amarena cherry notes framed by balsa, notions of deciduous forest floor dominated by dry hardwood and a touch of iron. There is still a good bit of youthful tannin. This carries its 15% alcohol with utter grace, so sip moderately.

Fairly nice entry level Brunello. Color, nose and taste show tipical BdM characteristics, without the heaviness (strong oak and tannis) of its more complex brothers. Quite drinkable now for a 2006.

Lovely traditional Brunello in its peak. Certainly has the acid and tannin to go for a while longer. But I think the other elements are in balance now. By 'Traditional' I mean it has much more austere acids and mid-weight texture, not a RP 100pt seeker. Smell is the best, nice mushroom, rosemary, dried meat qualities on the nose, some smoke too. Fruit is the subtle dark cherry variety. Plenty of gripping tannin too. The acid is stiff, which is …

Not sure if I opened this too early or too late but two hours plus of decanting didn't really get this wine to open up. Very earthy with minimal fruit on the nose and very dry tannins. Good but have had much better Brunello so overall a bit disappointed with this one.

Turning decidedly darker, more woody on the palate now. Overall comes accross as dryer, less fruit driven, perhaps more balsamic, leathery. Finishing with a hint of bitterness. Still very pretty aromatics, particularly with some additional airation. Drink now.

Much better experience than the last time I tried this wine. After a brief decant a light bodied, fruitful (cherry flavors) enjoyable wine comes through. The wine is more like a light bodied Chianti than Brunello. Happy with this experience as I thought my last few bottles were going to be a complete disappointment.

Deep garnet in the glass with a medium to heavy presence. The wine is hitting it's stride one but still has several years left. Decanted for about 2 hours. Dark fruit, licorice/anise with a touch of a spice blend. Some nice earth in this also. Tannins still could wait a few years but very balanced now.

Consistent with previous notes regarding ageability - fairly burnished now and more developed than I would expect for a 2006 brunello. However, its in an excellent place now. Midweight and very balanced. Classic Brunello feel and aromatics. Leather, cherry, tobacco, licorice, mushroom. Really excellent wine and screams traditional Brunello which is an excellent compliment in the face of so many Brunello's with more modern or non-typical styles. Cannot feel the hand of the winemaker here.

Showing very well right now, across all vectors. Great aromatics -- tiny bit of funk alongside red fruit and (especially) anise/licorice. Excellent on the palate too from the first pour, even before the double-decant; a little chalkiness at first, which blows off quickly. Well-balanced. Fruit middle-of-the-road between red and black. No rush to drink the remaining bottles, but certainly not a crime to open now....

PnP'd. Very underwhelming wine. Second time tasting, i don't recall being as under impressed last time hence the notes now. Perhaps a bad bottle or the wine is in hibernation - there was little fruit to be found on the palate on this light bodied BdM.

decant 90 mins...beautiful translucent ruby color...very expressive and old world nose of black cherry, plums, gingerbread, tobacco and wet earth, as well as a little heat from the 15% alcohol...mid-palate is rich in succulent fruit and sweet spice with young dusty tannins and well-integrated acidity/minerality...although still young and fresh, this is drinking extremely well now and will last for another decade or so...great classic brunello and best i've had recently <$50 and better than 04 castelgiocondo...even better second day under …
