I liked this wine, but it is not the expression I am used to from this vineyard Plenty of dark red fruit as usual, but the 1999 vintage seems to have a much more earthy/vegetal tertiary flavor profile than the '94-'97 wines. I do not believe the bottle was flawed, but this is my only one so not 100% sure

Popped and poured; enjoyed out of red Solo cups over the course of a few hours. The 1993 “Herb Lamb” pours a deep garnet/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and significant sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with heady notes of mostly ripe and some desiccate fruit: black currants, blackberries, black plum, a mix of red and purple flowers, tobacco, Poblano pepper, leather, cocoa, some tilled earth and fine baking spices. …

Opened and decanted for sediment (very necessary - lots here) and then Re bottles and brought to the restaurant. This was on first pour much too incredibly young. I wish I’d given it more of a decant. It came together with some air but really a long life ahead for this still. Nice to see.

An aged beauty that shows so well; stunning, as the fruit still pervades but has yielded secondary and tertiary flavors. The nose shows pepper, lavender and herbal notes. The tour de force of taste is concentrated dark brooding fruit, forest floor and a chocolate finish. Really not laying back, but coming right at you! Take your time with a decant here - at least two hours.

This wine is everything I want in a Cab. DEFINITELY better after about 2 hrs. Almost exclusively tertiary - dried fruit/flowers - hint of chocolate and tobacco - forest floor. Not overwhelming - but for those of us that love 20 year old superstar cabs.

Decanted for 2 hours. Deep purple and black color. Nose is classic old school Cabernet with cassis, leather, cedar and earthy/dusty black fruits. Medium weight palate, beautiful silky texture with moderate fruit and dusty dry tannins on the long finish. Great and this has plenty of life left.

Black cherry and black raspberry nose with some alcohol initially On the palate very fine tannins with no hard edges. The core is delicious black raspberry jam with hints of leather and stewed prunes in the background Drinking at its peak and probably will for several more years Might actually merit a point more. I might be underscoring because I was thinking this wine would be a "wow" and was just a bit disappointed

Decanted for approximately one hour. Burgundy to violet hue with bricking on the rim. Pretty tight on the nose initially which eventually opened to a delicate realm of stewed plums, raspberry preserves, and baking spice. For a 20 y/o wine this has held up extremely well. Nothing but a world of smoothness on the palate with a magical conglomeration of tasty dark red/blue fruit, totally integrated tannins and a soft supple medium plus bodied margauxesk finish of finesse and loveliness. …

I say we're going to sit on these and they are drinking quite young and yet it's hard not to want to pull them out. This was really nice. Perhaps the most understated of the wines that we had. Lots of darker red fruit. We opened and decanted and I will say it benefited a lot from the decant. This isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Will continue to keep an eye out. Very nice wines.

This wine served up a soft and suntle bouquet of dark fruit and dust. Tannins were completed integrated and the finish was relatively brief. Wonderful wine, but I’d be drinking them soon.

Charleston Offlineorama IV; 9/27/2018-10/1/2018 (Charleston, NC (various locations)) : Served next to the Le Conseillante, there is almost a subtle sweetness to the fruit profile of this wine that I don't think I would have noticed otherwise. The fruit leans to blackberry with dark chocolate base notes, some eucalyptus, lovely dusty tannins, and a long finish.

Charleston IV - Return of the Collectible; 9/27/2018-9/30/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)) : Really enjoyed this wine as always. It's still actually fairly young. Might sit a bit on our other bottles. It's got these lovely sweet black fruits and some aged leather and some spice and everything is just very nice and balanced. Touch of the violet and lavender. Very nice.

Fully mature, and still in the zone, there are generous helpings of elegance and harmony just now that focus the aromas and flavors as if to trumpet the pedigree here. Full-bodied, with silky, generous lines, resolved tannins and good acid lift. The finish gains a bit by the final glass, suggesting maybe I should have aerated to decanter for 60-90 minutes, but as it was, a 2 hour Audoze seemed to work very well - more so when paired to …

Heritage Blind Tasting in Vegas (Jean-Georges Restaurant, Aria Hotel Las Vegas) : Dark ruby, low staining in the glass; rightaway got notes of mint, eucalyptus, with red cassis, smoke, tobacco, some subtle oak notes, some ripe fruits in the core, and just a very nice balance, vibrancy, pure fruits, complexity and tastiness that I usually don't find in Cali cab. Stellar. And still very fresh and in a good spot. Guessed '01 Heitz Martha's. Heritage Auction Blind Tasting line-up.

This was one of many "inherited" wines from a wealthy collector I got and have been fortunate to enjoy. It's my first and only Colgin Herb Lamb and all I can say is WOW this was really good for a 24 yr old Cali cab. As others have said still holding a bit tannins no real acidity but dark fruits continued to show after a double decant for an hour then drank over 2 hours at 801 Chophouse with filets. …

Just completely love these old Colgins. They are really special. This was black fruit and hints of lavender and very much in that perfect age range where everything is working well. Had opened and decanted and then drank over course of about 2.5 hours (side by side with an '80 Unico). While the Unico was the winner, this definitely held it's own and was just lovely with the duck we had.

DIY Holiday BYO Dinner (Amali in NYC) : It was pointed out to me by some who'd had both that the '94 we were lucky enough to have a few weeks ago was better than the '93. Perhaps. I was really digging the '93 though. It's more herbal and spicy and then there's lovely floral and fruits in there. I had 'I love this' at least twice in the handwritten notes. CT window (2014) much too short - this was …

This showed remarkably young. The cherry fruit was bright and fresh, and the tannins were still quite noticeable. I felt it was lacking acidity, and it needed it desperately. It probably didn't help that we drank it just after the 2001 Tig, but I still enjoyed it with my lamb dish at Colicchio & Sons.

Lovely ripe aromatics wrapped in rosemary and thyme, voluptuous and sensuous mouthfeel with a persistent lingering finish. Balanced too and fully resolved with soft tannins and good freshness; less intense than the 2005 Colgin IX as a reference point. Great bottle at a nice stage of its drinking evolution - would not wait longer.

Welcome Back Kelvin! (Part II) (Hua Ting, Orchard Hotel) : A great Napa Cab, one of the best I have had in a long time. Like the Alsatian wine that preceded it, this took awhile in our glasses to fully open up, but it was fantastic when it did. Its nose here was full of lovely aromatics from the first pour, with fresh blackberries and cassis scents punctuated by lifted notes of mint and briar and fresh herbs (rosemary and …

A big strapping wine, weighing in at 14.1 percent alcohol, and matched with big oak on the nose. Rough and brutal, the center core of fruit here is simply huge and deep. It smooths out with air and shows quite nicely but retains its weight and over-ripeness. A great match for steak in a steakhouse. (Commerce)

Drank at Pebble Beach Food & Wine. Forget what I wrote in the last note about a 5 year drinking window. This still has 10 to go. Stunning wine. I put an extra glass in my refrigerator in the room at 11:30 amd. At 11:30 pm I removed it and let it warm for 30 minutes. It became the best midnight snack I've ever had. Every time I open a bottle of this wine I worry that I have waited too long. After all, a 14 year old Helen Turley Cab? Fortunately, no - this is still a fabulous wine. Incredible, rich nose; a mouthful of fruit; and a long finish. Lots of flavors, but still with a nice backbone.

Bevan Cellars Comes to NYC (Triomphe) : Wow. I made the wise tactical decision to leave this one in my glass because despite many hours of decanting it felt very young. Once it was coaxed out of its shell it was absolutely magnificent. Deep nose of cassis, licorice, tobacco and slate.
