Maison Champy Beaune 1er Cru Les Cras

after a run of bottles with the fruit completely gone, this was absolutely delicious with the fruit intact - the mystery that is burgundy!

still going strong - maybe it has more life in it than I expected last year?

living on the last of its fruit but with a wonderful complexity and length and depth of flavour - delicious!

was very good - you clearly got the volume - the strenght of Pommard - peber was clear- though the balance was very good - think the wine was very drinkable

DIVA Burgundy Tasting; 3/21/2012-3/22/2012 (Maison Champy - Beaune) : Wine tasting. Good red fruit aromas with modest spice. Palate still quite fresh, but I'd like a little more fruit to accompany the wine's fairly assertive structure.

This seems to be in a pretty good place, balanced with fresh acidity and moderate drying tannins. Mushroom and cherry aromatics, decent weight and plum/forest floor palate.

Ditto my note of June, 2008. Tonight though the nose was even more complex yet elegant and the tannins a bit more intgrated.

Purchased on a whim, and a hunch, at DeLuca's Market on Charles St. in Boston this afternoon. Open but not decanted 1 hour before drinking. Good red-garnet color with some lightness at the rim. Potent, complex, rich aromas of beets, tar, tea, flowers and cherries roll out of the glass. Good acidity and moderate tannins support red fruits on the palate.
