Stood up for weeks, decanted off a significant amount of well-settled sediment. Light-med ruby with age-appropriate bricking; aromatic, a bit of soy, some youthful fruit, tar; palate is medium bodied, youthful fruit, high tannin which kicks in through the midpalate, high acidity, balanced alcohol; finish is medium-plus length. High quality barolo, at a very early maturity with a lot of growth ahead but also very enjoyable now. 91-92

Previously Coravined (one glass). I made the mistake of trying to Coravin again and all it did was stir up some sediment. Let that settle in the glass, and uncorked the bottle. A lot of browning round the rim and quite dull colour wasn’t a great sign. First impression on the nose was coffee grounds and earthiness plus definite hints of oxidation. It did reveal some hints of what had been but any fruit was pretty elusive, all tertiary. However, …

NOSE: M+ intensity, dark cherry, cherry blossom, plum jam with hints of leather and savory back-notes; PALATE: M+ intensity on entry, palate follows nose, M acidity and well-integrated, smooth M tannins, wraps in a well-rounded M+ finish; OVERALL: felt this is in a great place for drinking now if you finish it on the 1st night, crossed into secondary aging notes on night three, not surprising given its 14 year age.

Amazing - The aroma was expressive from the start. Sour cherries, cranberries, herbs, leather, tobacco, and earth. With time, became more harmonius and open. Fantastic. Maybe a few more years to continue to develop but nothing wrong with drinking right now.

Monprivato and Friends (Noize) : Red fruit and underbrush on the nose: seemed less juvenile than the Monprivato '12 we'd had earlier. Deeper and darker on the palate, with lots of (relatively approachable) structure and a piquant, slightly drying finish. A good wine that has upside.

Ah, either this bottle had a shock or the wine is on its way down or never really a good wine. Tawny color, tawny smell. Port-like smell of slightly cooked fruit, together with dried roses but above all porcini mushrooms, tar and soy sauce. Very sweet tannins as the wine enters the palate, very drying tannins in the aftertaste. Hydrocarbons and cherries under alcohol. Tar and dried roses in the aftertaste (pleasant) and a sense of alcohol and wood (unpleasant). …

I love where 2012 Barolo are at right now, and this is a cracker. A gorgeous nose of pure cherry fruit, rose petals, licorice and earth. It has a core of highly perfumed, sweet fruit and plenty of earthy/ savoury nuance. It is silky and builds through the palate and fans out, driving on and on, carried by its sinewy tannins.

This was decanted for about 3 hours before drinking. The nose was nuanced and poised with red cherries, raspberries, rose petals, licorice, roasted herb, tar, tobacco notes, black truffles, spice tones, and some violets. The Full bodied feel shows off the elegance of the nose with excellent depth and balance. The structure is pulling back and letting the feel shine with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. This is just lovely and one of the better Bricco Boschis' that …

Popped and poured. Classic Barolo showing well at age 10. Earthy and fragrant nose with gobs of dirt, tar, and hints of wildflowers. The follow through on the palate is equally nice with notes of licorice and cherry. Great texture and open at the moment. This wine is in early maturity and will hold for at least 10 more years. Terrific wine.

After 3 hours aeration not quite ready and smelled and tasted a little muddy. After 4 hours was approachable. Quite a big and solid wine. Needed food. Great match with a tomahawk steak - silky tannin and precise and linear acidity. I didn’t get much from the nose. Palette displayed violets, rose, dark fruits and ‘tar’. Mature. Ready to drink now but no hurry.

A powerful Barolo, but one with quite ripe tannins and a good freshness to the acidity. Medicinal, but more as a spice together with the intense fruit of raspberry, cherry and strawberry. Roses and tar. Surprisingly drinkable, but more a steak wine than something to pair with pasta or risotto. Very good! I had this in a restaurant two years ago almost to the day and I think this has become more balanced since then.

Not blown away, A bit meh. I really wanted it to be brilliant, but it was a bit clunky, well made but noting thrilling here, middle of the road, didn’t have the mineral highlights of say Roagna or the floral notes of someone like Burlotto, and is pretty much in the same ball park price wise. From memory these guys are using roto-fermenters? Perhaps I just prefer the longer traditional fermentation style, perhaps it was the fact the glassware wasn’t …

47th Viceroy's B'Day; 9/28/2017-10/1/2017 (Restaurant La Piperna - Madrid) : Infanticide. Just a fourteen years old bottle. A crime to a dense, complex, old school barolo. Aromas of flesh meat, plenty of earthy elements. Hard, too hard on the palate to be enjoyed at the present moment. Its time will come. Be patient. Un infanticidio. Una botella de sólo catorce años. Nose: The nose is flowing and perfumed with red cherries, roasted herbs, tar, rose petals, leather, earth, and some truffles. While the nose is open for business, there is a lot of purity and youth to the nose to let you still know there is a ways to go. Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity and chewy tannins. The structure isn't overbearing, but it isn't really pulled back either along with red cherries, roasted herbs, rose petals, leather, strawberries, and …

Still youthfully colored. An intoxicating nose. Deep cherry fruit, roses, tar, all with great freshness, and purity. I could have easily guessed 25 years younger. On the palate, more roses, tar, huge perfume, beautiful tension. For me I think Castiglione hits the highest heights for me. There are other finer and more powerful zones, but this seems to have the best of both for me. Terribly fresh, poised, regal wine. Fantastic. Hard to fathom how good this was. Stunning for …

Full disclosure: I'm a huge fan of this estate. This is delicious and classic, full of black cherry, blackberry and menthol notes. Good complexity of incense-like spice character. Only 'downside' is the slight (for the estate/style) lack of tannin and body, although for many (me included at the moment) this could be seen as a plus point.

Garnet-red with a brownish rim. The nose offered lush heart-cherries, damp forest soil, some tar, a balsamic note, prune, dates, raw meat, leather and mushrooms. The tannins were quite present, yet smooth, somewhat velvety and fine-grained. Full-bodied and of warmer stylistics due to the vintage, but provided with enough acidity to still lend the wine a certain degree of freshness. Red fruit, cherry, some dried fruit and a balsamic note on the palate. A long finish, accompanied by dried herbs …

I've now had four bottles of a case and am in two minds about this. Very little decanting and minimal coaxing lead to a rather undignified explosion of cherries from the glass that, when combined with the Barolo tar and roses (cough mixture?), lead to a contraction both of my mouth and nose. This is not a great start in my book, but I never liked Cherry Coke. Each to his own. From there however, things improve markedly. The tannins …

One of the best bottle of Barolo (or any wine for that matter) that I have had in the past 5 years. It was awesome! Drinking great, within its window (still good for 3++ years). Was apprehensive that I might have been broaching this too young but not at all. Perfect drinking now and really great classic Barolo. Drank it a bit cold so the nose wasn't very expressive but it just exploded with cherry on the palate and tannins were silky. Very long too. Glad I have another!
