Stood up for weeks, decanted off a significant amount of well-settled sediment. Light-med ruby with age-appropriate bricking; aromatic, a bit of soy, some youthful fruit, tar; palate is medium bodied, youthful fruit, high tannin which kicks in through the midpalate, high acidity, balanced alcohol; finish is medium-plus length. High quality barolo, at a very early maturity with a lot of growth ahead but also very enjoyable now. 91-92

Previously Coravined (one glass). I made the mistake of trying to Coravin again and all it did was stir up some sediment. Let that settle in the glass, and uncorked the bottle. A lot of browning round the rim and quite dull colour wasn’t a great sign. First impression on the nose was coffee grounds and earthiness plus definite hints of oxidation. NOSE: M+ intensity, dark cherry, cherry blossom, plum jam with hints of leather and savory back-notes; PALATE: M+ intensity on entry, palate follows nose, M acidity and well-integrated, smooth M tannins, wraps in a well-rounded M+ finish; OVERALL: felt this is in a great place for drinking now if you finish it on the 1st night, crossed into secondary aging notes on night three, not surprising given its 14 year age.

Amazing - The aroma was expressive from the start. Sour cherries, cranberries, herbs, leather, tobacco, and earth. With time, became more harmonius and open. Fantastic. Maybe a few more years to continue to develop but nothing wrong with drinking right now.

Monprivato and Friends (Noize) : Red fruit and underbrush on the nose: seemed less juvenile than the Monprivato '12 we'd had earlier. Deeper and darker on the palate, with lots of (relatively approachable) structure and a piquant, slightly drying finish. A good wine that has upside.

Port-like smell of slightly cooked fruit, together with dried roses but above all porcini mushrooms, tar and soy sauce. I love where 2012 Barolo are at right now, and this is a cracker. A gorgeous nose of pure cherry fruit, rose petals, licorice and earth. It has a core of highly perfumed, sweet fruit and plenty of earthy/ savoury nuance. It is silky and builds through the palate and fans out, driving on and on, carried by its sinewy tannins.

This was decanted for about 3 hours before drinking. The nose was nuanced and poised with red cherries, raspberries, rose petals, licorice, roasted herb, tar, tobacco notes, black truffles, spice tones, and some violets. Popped and poured. Classic Barolo showing well at age 10. Earthy and fragrant nose with gobs of dirt, tar, and hints of wildflowers. The follow through on the palate is equally nice with notes of licorice and cherry. Great texture and open at the moment. This wine is in early maturity and will hold for at least 10 more years. After 3 hours aeration not quite ready and smelled and tasted a little muddy. After 4 hours was approachable. Quite a big and solid wine. Needed food. Great match with a tomahawk steak - silky tannin and precise and linear acidity. I didn’t get much from the nose. Palette displayed violets, rose, dark fruits and ‘tar’. Mature. Ready to drink now but no hurry.

A powerful Barolo, but one with quite ripe tannins and a good freshness to the acidity. Medicinal, but more as a spice together with the intense fruit of raspberry, cherry and strawberry. Roses and tar. Surprisingly drinkable, but more a steak wine than something to pair with pasta or risotto. Very good! I had this in a restaurant two years ago almost to the day and I think this has become more balanced since then.

Nice wine, decanted, first glass about 1/2 hour. Good but a touch acidic and tight at first. However, Throughout the night it kept opening and was excellent. Note to self: decant at least an hour or more.

Full disclosure: I'm a huge fan of this estate. This is delicious and classic, full of black cherry, blackberry and menthol notes. Good complexity of incense-like spice character. Only 'downside' is the slight (for the estate/style) lack of tannin and body, although for many (me included at the moment) this could be seen as a plus point.

I've now had four bottles of a case and am in two minds about this. Very little decanting and minimal coaxing lead to a rather undignified explosion of cherries from the glass that, when combined with the Barolo tar and roses (cough mixture?), lead to a contraction both of my mouth and nose. One of the best bottle of Barolo (or any wine for that matter) that I have had in the past 5 years. It was awesome! Drinking great, within its window (still good for 3++ years). Was it the environment or the wine - it was the wine - throughly enjoyed. Balanced fruit and alcohol, beautiful legs and browned red color - I could drink this every night and be happy.

Was apprehensive that I might have been broaching this too young but not at all. Perfect drinking now and really great classic Barolo. Drank it a bit cold so the nose wasn't very expressive but it just exploded with cherry on the palate and tannins were silky. Very long too. Glad I have another!
