Freixenet, Cordon Negro Brut, Cava

Similar review and observations as my prior review. Dropped the relative score but still a great option and much better for purpose and value than prosecco. Mini bottle left over from Christmas advent calendar.

Nose: Rubber bouncy ball in your face, lemon, yeast dough, walnut. Palate: Bouncy ball is still present, but not as intensely. Lemon and berries. Medium+ acidity. The sweetness is strange; almost like an artificial sweetener aftertaste. Not good, but this holds a nostalgic place in my heart as my first cava back in the day.

Pale straw colour. Aroma of green apple. Flavour hints of lemon and mushroom. High acidity. Some fruitiness, not as dry as true champagne but still a strong alternative from a surprising source.

Better than I thought it would be based on the other reviews here and my experiences from >10 years ago, but it was actually quite refreshing and pleasant. Almost flawless, and a fine accompaniment to our afternoon charcuterie. I might add this to the “once-or-twice a year” rotation. 4+10+15+7= 86

Patriarch Birthday Party : Fine enough cava, nothing special. For their premiere cuvee behind Cuvee D.S., not quite expressive and lees expression. everyone agreed the cremant was better.

Creamy bouquet along with fresh cut grass, brioche, almond and honey. Tasty brioche, and lemon tarte flavours, plus honey, apple and lime. Good food wine, and not bad for $15.

Sunfish Cellars Fall Grand Wine Tasting (Lilydale, MN) : Is this crap or what. Cheap sparkling wine and can't believe the US allows this to be imported. Simple stuff with some mild fruit and a touch of sweetness.

Pours pale-medium straw, fine bubbles. Nose is fresh with lime, green apple, wet stone, ginger. Palate with zippy crisp acidity, yuzu-ginger and lime, finish is clean and short with toasted almond. Overall a very refreshing pour, no issues, would gulp

As part of Aireuropa Business in Flight service. From a bottle of 200 milliliters. Pale colour almost translucent (pictured). Acidity is manifested even on the nose in the form of herbaceous and citrus notes. This acidity is intrusive in the mouth as well as its bubbles. Decent Cava for cheap. The wine smells and tastes of lemon, melon flavors, and apples. There is a little lees character from the wine but not as much as a champagne would, which is to be expected from the style and price. Better than most at this price point!

At Riu Palace Oasis, Maspalomas, Gran Canaria. Pale straw lemon colour. Apple, fennel, nuts, light tobacco, and smoke, with fresh acidity and good length. The mousse is medium-fine and perceived as lightly creamy. Finishes with pleasant, Aspirin-like bitterness. A good Cava. Would buy again.

My family's favourite Cava.Has muted aromas. It has nice vanilla-ery stone fruits perlage and lovely acidity. Ends shortish and refreshing. 11.5%.

Bottle taken from Bob Thomsases cellar-- questioned whether or not is would still be good. Open and poured down drain.

Do not consider myself an expert in bubble wines... still this one is lacking. Medium to light body. Low acidity, feels semi dry. Flat bubbles. Like it more sparkling. Not very aromatic, citrus and a weird aroma I do not like too much. Simoke and anemic on the palate too. Citrus and a side taste I do not like. Nice black bottle though 😇 A bad VFM too... for 59 NIS you can get much better.

Clean lemony nose, nice ripe fruit on the palate and a surprising weight and richness in the mouth. There are better Cavas out there for the money but this is actually a nice wine. Ignore the Freixenet hates!

Pear, Golden Apple, a bit of yeast and ginger. Pleasant, better as a mixer. Very good as a brunch mixer (e.g., Mimosas).

This is really good. Especially compared to what it used to be like in the 90s, when I last tasted it. Excellent aperitif wine. Not very complex but that’s not what you are looking for.

A light everyday drinking Spanish fizz with nice oak, a bit linear on the freshly fruited palate with coarse perlage and with decent length. Good value at around 8 Euros. 11.5%.

NYE 2022 4th wine of the night Once again as a sparkler goes this is a decent one. More dry than sweet but enough to not come across as a Cava style even though that is what the bottle states.

Middle of the road Cava. Works well in an Aperol Spritz, Mimosa, etc.

This is a featherweight lightly oaked bready, chalky stone fruits Cava with muted aromas and mediumish lightly oaked finish. 11.5%. A family favourite. Decent value for a sparkler at 8 Euros

Medium lemon color. Pronounced intensity aromas of apple, pear, nectarine, and pastry. Dry, medium acidity, medium alcohol, light body, medium flavor intensity, and medium finish. Flavors of stones, bitter peach, unripe melon, lemon peel, and tart pears.

Straw-yellow in the glass and mid+ carbonation. Yeasty and fresh cut apple aroma. Palate displays crisp apple and pear. Good acidity.

Beautiful small bubbles and a lovely light golden colour. Creamy nuts and ripe yellow fruits on the nose. Nice minerality with complex aromas.

Very pronounced peppermint and green notes. Was ok.

Almost Champagne-like, with citrus notes, brioche, pistachios. Fine bubbles, integrated acidity, creamy texture, this is quite rich and satisfying.

Rather nice but perhaps a bit weak and mainstream - you know when something is too nice it becomes lackluster. It was a bit bitter but otherwise a fine dry taste with some bread and citrus. Far better than a champagne in this price region.

SUPER fine bubbles, like pin picks floating in to the air. The nose on this wine is full of dusty air and reserves itself for judgment. On the nose, the wine has a musty attic quality to it followed by cooked plantains, vanilla and raw almonds. The aromas are rich, while at the same time, fresh and enticing.
