Corkbuzz Wine Studio NYC Back Vintage Wine Class (Corkbuzz - NYC) : From Corkbuzz Wine Studio NYC Back Vintage Wine Class on 3/25/2013: Beautiful soft yellow showing age in the glass. Nose very typical Riesling of honey, melon, pear, apple with touch of lemon. This was a weak botrytis vintage so nothing too sweet here even for a Spatlese. The wine really sang of fried lemon peel. Not the standard hauting tone I traditionally pick of from Riesling but really …

this is what I consider classic aged German Riesling. Petrol, bruised apples, juicy pit fruits, some slate and decent acids. Had a slight nose of stinky cheese but nothing like the 88 it was tasted next too. After a while in the decater it started to express a very unique jalapeno note that was very interesting. Really enjoyed this wine and it went well with sausage and apple pancakes.

Had this with the 88. A little more alive then the 88, sharper acids and bigger-cleaner flavors. Peach, lime, green pepper, honey, light petrol, and slate on the nose. Full palate of apricots, jalapeno, marscopone and blue cheese, honey, lime, slate, and apples. Great match with apple-cinnamon pancakes drizzled with maple syrup. Excellent match with blue cheese. Medium plus finish and nice acids.

This wine is still with me as a faded memory from the Bowler Portfolio so long ago. This dazzled with a delicious petrol character, still seething with life. It allegedly sold within minutes--gone.

See previous TN. A poster child for aged Riesling.

Wow. I am a fan of aged Riesling, so I might be a bit biased. But, this wine was absolutely superb. There was just a hint of sweetness balanced with perfect acidity. Just so many flavors and nuances. Simply a joy to drink. I would have rated it higher, but I need to leave some room for the wines I am served on my death bed.

Rich golden; petrol, limes, honeysuckle; off-dry, lime, elegant, light-medium body, excellent balance, tangy acidity, lingering finish. Elegant and poised with a youthful vibrance which belied its age. Good for many more years.

Especially for the price, this serves as a good introduction to what maturity brings to Riesling.

Mineral, creamed hazelnut, earth, and ripe yellow apples on the nose. Fresh, off-dry palate with a long, bright, fruity finish. 4/5
