Maison Roche de Bellene Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts

Purple / garnet colour. Red fruits, a bit of earth on the nose. On the palate - again those red fruits, lovely silky mouth feel, there's breadth and depth on this. Definitely 1er cru structure but this is comfortable in its skin and the tannic bones are well covered. An almost reductive, almost coke float element on the finish suggests this isn't *quite* in the zone yet, but drinking lovely now. Looking at today's market price...phewsh, spendy I guess but …

At this price, I would have expected more.

Lighter and brighter than the Vaucrains, chewy and intense.
