Domaine Michel Lafarge Côte de Beaune Villages

Pop and pour. Swoon. On the nose: soft earth, pomegranate, cranberry, so elegant. On the palate: lovely acidity, solid density, pomegranate. cranberry...so lively and juicy with finely grained tannin on the finish. Still showing loads of fruit and a bit of secondary with plenty left in the tank.

A lovely btl., though darker than I expected. On the nose: black cherry, soft mulberry leaf, a hint of pyrazine. On the palate: good acidity, blackberry, some stemmy notes, good density...finely grained tannin on the finish. Solid.

Sadly, corked.

Pop and pour. Nice nose with whole cluster spice, bark and medicinal notes, and red raspberry, maybe slightly weedy. On the palate, good acidity, savory tones mixed with red fruit...a touch thin and attenuated tannin on the finish. Denser on the palate with roast chicken. Not bad, maybe needs more time?

Much better than a bottle consumed last year. No signs of under ripeness, green / pyroxenes. Cassis, floral and a slight character of moss / forest. With air a animal note evolves; beeswax, leather and fresh game. In the mouth the wine is linear, solid and framed by rigid tannins. Sufficiently fresh the wine shows an impeccable balance. Day 2 - similar impressions, more amplitude to the various characters, better defined, more complete. Wait a few years before opening another.
