Agree with the other notes, this wine has very high aromatic complexity. For us, it was orange peel oils, and some herbs like rosemary. However, this wine was surprisingly low in acid (For us). It would pair nicely with very high acid cuisine, like Thai. With richer food, it did not have enough to make us want to keep drinking it.

Straight up gorgeous bottle at Ping’s. Needs time to come into itself, but Lordy, what a wine! White flowers and orchard fruit, a rat-tat-tat of salty sea spray, a whiff of wintergreen, and a rill of glacier water freshness burbling throughout. A favorite vineyard site shown in glowing relief by the talented Gernot Kollmann.

During a walkabout tasting, so only brief impressions. First time I am having this producer. Interesting labels... The wines itself were much richer than a normal Mosel, more like a Pfalz or Alsace but with more energy and freshness. All of them were very aromatic. The Ellergrud Erste Lage Trocken and Batterieberg Grosse Lage were my favorites.

The nose is quite complex with smoky, herbal notes. The wine is broad and generous with peach, pear, and browned butter. Aging well, a little light in acidity, but exceptionally delicious right now.

This is delicious right now and seems to have really bloomed- it is a bit sweeter than I expected but well balanced. Pretty impressive.

The 2011 Ellergrub has arrived, having been quite closed upon opening. Only twenty minutes later, the nose was showing masses of minerals and dried floral tones, with, apricot, dried peach, smoke and a hint of savory herbs. On the palate, it's textural weight was offset by zesty mineral-infused acidity with notes of peach, young mango and citrus tinged inner floral tones. The finish showed brisk acidity with sweet yellow and green tropical notes and lingering minerality.

An evening with wine geeks (Private location, Trier) : 12% abv. First vintage of Gernot Kollmann. Complex nose, herbs, nettles, slate. High, perfectly integrated acidity. Off-dry, dark slate, intense, long and young. 91-92

Slate in spades! Lots of smoke, floral nuances, candied lemon, Reine Claude, apricot and bruised red apple. Very precise and well-defined in its aromatics. What I think is most remarkable of this wine is the way how airyness, elegance and detail are balanced with the impressive concentration of minerals and creamy fruit in the mid-palate. A modern-day Mosel Riesling, though made with lots of respect and attention for the Mosel traditions. What a gorgeous wine. Bravo.

A great way to start tonight's tasting, the 2011 is showing masses of floral tones, apricot and crushed stone. On the palate, textural weight is offset by vibrant acidity and minerals with young mango and inner floral tones. The finish cuts slightly short, but this is just a baby, and likely holding back. A beautiful showing.

Riesling and Piedmont - Summer Throwdown; 7/23/2016-7/25/2016 : likely the best showing yet (this is my third time trying this wine)..which points to the fact that these are rather young. very floral, rich nose. touch of tropical notes mixing with yellow and white peach. sexy ripe mid that makes one think of the sweeter Rieslings. touch of RS feel on the finish. minerality is still hiding though and i believe it will come together more with time.

Crazy Bash - Who Starts with Riesling and ends with Scotch?!! : quite floral, with notes of sweet white peach and mineral. mid is ripe, with a bit more RS than expected, pineapples and yellow peaches dominate. good zesty finish. i would put this on hold though and let the minerality become more prominent.

NOSE > Juicy, sappy, stony lime-flesh, nectarine-skin, lemon-oil, smoked-sage, red-cherry & lavender. Hint of skin-contact. Fresh, fleshy, bright, aromatic, ripe, tight fruit. PALATE > Quince, lime-flesh/zest, tart-nectarine, violet, bitter-orange oil, lanolin, talc, creamsicle, & nectarine-skin. Crushed stone all through. Finishes with mineral salts, lime-flesh & zest. Stony freshness from beginning to end. Good acidity. Med+ intensity & length. Great freshness, fruit & complexity. So drinkable. 12%ABV. Just off-dry & drinks fairly dry, with stony/salty lime-oil/zest echoing long on the aftertaste. …

Beautiful Riesling. Textbook Mosel profile, just a hint of sweetness, crystalline. Very long and complex, with a depth that I assume comes from the old vines. I love this.

Just off dry. Lithe and agile. Crisp peach and melon with just a whiff of honey. Perfectly balanced. Jan and I liked the gentle residual sugar, Lisa, not no much.

The Ellegrub is very pretty. It began with the perception of light lemon water and water from a cistern. After a few hours the wine filled out and added juicy tartness which gave it a nice mouthfeel. It was full, and juicy but pretty much stayed light, like it wasn't ready to land just yet. By the way it filled out, I suspect the wine will get better over the next few years.

Really pretty aromatics; floral and perfumed scents over ripe peach, pineapple and apple fruit with a stony mineral base beneath. There's a touch of residual sweetness here, but there's also really bright acidity that keeps it very precise and focused and it finishes just barely off-dry.
