Opened this wine during a family dinner on the 1st day of CNY at Grand Pavilion Seafood Restaurant with the extended family. Straw green in colour with notes of fresh green plums on the nose, followed by honeysuckle, white peaches, lemon peel, and hints of acacia blossom. On the palate, the wine is textural and well structured. Good balance between ripe orchard fruit with zesty citrus and a saline mineral backbone. Has substantial weight and depthe with the fresh acidity …

Far better than the last bottle. A good, solid wine for seafood, and if you ave some, time to drink it.

I thought that this had lost its freshness and needed to be drunk. This bottle has dispelled that notion. Fresh on the nose with white peach notes balancing the SB flavours. On the palate the Semillon is now to the fore as the wine opens up. Great balance and depth. Expect the Semillon to dominate although only 33% of the blend.

A bit reductive. Fully mature, needed time in glass to open up, but decanting would have been too much. Some tropical fruits with dried apricot, lemon grass and baking spice. A nice wine, but time to drink up.

Solid delicious mature white. Not a lot of complexity but a lot of body. Rich French white. Perfect with country style dishes or with spicy seafood (steamed mussels from Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook). I'd also pair with skate or sole muniere.

VITICULTURE Opalie de Château Coutet comes from the quintessential parts of the Grand Cru vineyards, comprised of fruits selected from a few rows of 40-year-old vines that are planted in the thickest layers of clay and limestone in the estate’s soil. Along with the local climate, these conditions contribute significantly to the aromatic complexity of the wine. The fruit is harvested manually, using small baskets to collect and protect the matured berries prior to arriving at the cellar. VINIFICATION Château …

almost a sweet wine... The wine looks blonde colored. The legs are medium. The body is medium. The wine has juicy texture.

Drank this today at New Ubin Seafood with a close colleague. We had foie gras with soft boiled egg, rib eye steak, potato wedges and grilled squid. Light yellow in colour with fragrant floral notes on the nose. Some nutty flavours, coupled with white stone fruits and peaches and melon were evident on the nose. On the palate this wine presents good weight to hold up against the foie gras and grilled squid. Some waxy notes and limstone flavours with …

Dinner with Tim, Elliott, Ashish, and Roger (Tim's) : (blind) Medium gold color. Almond and dried peach. 14% alcohol (close - 14.5%), nutty oxidative notes - well integrated. Almond. Slight oak impression. Stylistic and structural bitterness - elevated bitterness. The wine seems defined by bitterness, in a good way. Medium acid. In conclusion, this is a slightly oaked oxidative white. Pronounced hazelnut - 20% new oak: Guess: Northern Rhône Marsanne roussane blend 2010 - Hermitage. Actually 2010 opalie de coutet. …

Laterals for slightly Oaked oxidative white: hazelnut. 20% new oak. * Northern Rhône Marsanne roussane blend 2010 - Hermitage. * 2010 opalie de coutet. 14.5% $40 * It’s very good and the aromatics in hindsight are classic BdX.

Dinner with Tim, Elliott, Rajiv, and Roger; 5/9/2018-5/11/2018 (San Francisco) : Coravin 5/9/18: Light golden; moderately aromatic with waxy aromas, lanolin, underlying guava, melon; palate is full bodied, rich and waxy, some citrus; medium finish. This bottle was an experiment, 5 years aged since my last taste in 2013, and it really hasn't changed much or gained much. Certainly a richer-styled bordeaux blanc, though without the sauternes-nose that is common in dry sauternes, and drinkable with food but too expensive …

Grat mature semillon. Waxy, citrus, rich enough but balanced. A delicious accompaniment to shellfish pasta.

Not what I expected. Mostly, dry wines from Sauternes tend to have a very Sauternes like nose, but this was definitely white Bordeaux a la Laville Haut Brion. Nice weight, waxy white fruits, medium finish, tightened in the glass with some welcome minerality. A fine aperitif and still developing. Next time, with fish in white sauce...

Vanilla, candied citrus peel, orange, honey and nuts create the perfume. The wine is thick, but not heavy. It feels like a medium bodied Sauternes without the sugar, while displaying more acidity on the palate. The finish ends with fresh, sweet lemon, lime sensations.

Château Coutet Masterclass with Aline Baly (Domaine, Chicago) : Tasted at a “Château Coutet Masterclass” with Aline Baly. Pale color with a hint of gold. Forward floral nose dominated by scents of pollen, with underlying aromas of unsalted butter and saline minerality reflective of the limestone/clay soil at the site. The palate is razor-sharp, with crisp green apple and white pepper flavors. The finish is persistent with firm acids and a pulsating mineral note that becomes even more austere as …

Delicious. Still a bit restrained, but charming. We had it before dinner, but would shine with the right food or cheese.

Coutet Dinner (Picco, Larkspur CA) : Tropical fruit, balanced, acidic, guava. A good bordeaux blanc, but maybe not worth its roughly $40+ price point. 88-90
