This Stolpman "blew my socks off". Paired with tomato and mustard greens lamb steak stew, delighted the tongue accompanied by a long finish. And glycerin legs in the stemware extraordinary. Was it the night, the pairing, or an 11-year-old beauty hitting its stride? I think the latter.

Big nose of brooding black fruits, cedar, smoked meat and creosote. Full-bodied with loads of sweet blue and blackberry fruit on the palate as well as vanilla-tinged new oak and cigar box/wood spice. This has finally shed it's youthful cloak of over-extraction and tannin and is drinking beautifully with smash burgers! In a beautiful place right now but should hang in there another 3-4 years. 92

A nice wine to have with cheese and charcuterie on a Thursday night.

Similar experience to last note, although I'd rate it a bit lower.

Interesting how disparate the reviews are. Variance like this is usually reserved for more dynamic styles or locals like the Jura. I have to agree with Neecies. There was a bit of a clove thing going on after the wine was open for a bit that I could have done without, but that faded after a bit and left a nice entry level Syrah with a bit of age on it. You could do much worse for a weeknight option …

A quick taste after pulling the cork deemed the wine ready without decanting and it just bided its time uncorked for 90 minutes before dinner. Recent reviews are all over the place but our bottle was very fine: black raspberry fruit with roast beef, black olive and fennel. Acidity was appropriate (CA wines in this vintage are sometimes inadequate, but not the case here) and tannins where they should be for a wine that can cellar for many more years. …

Had to rewrite and change this note entirely. Decanted an hour and in the glass over a couple hours. Cola cola cola cola. If you want to know what this wine tastes like, drink a flat Coca Cola. Nose was initially slightly gamey, but after an hour it’s very reminiscent of cola. Palate is full body with resolved tannins and medium low acidity. Dark red fruits with some herbal flavors wrapped in (you guessed it) cola. Finish is more red …

A bit too much of a fruit bomb, without a lot of complexity.

Purchased in 2016 and opened 02-May-2020. Pop-n-poured this dark, full bodied Syrah and enjoyed outdoors by a bon-fire with a good cigar. Dark fruit with a slight mineral nose and maybe a hint of pepper. Both palate and nose continued to improve as it opened up in the glass. Might have gotten more out of it had I decanted it, but overall it was a well balanced and delicious Syrah.

What a change with a lot of time to open. Did not decant, but after a half hour the wine was undrinkable. We were afraid it had ruined a dish my wife made for dinner. Popped another bottle for dinner and stopped my wife from pouring out the syrah. Hours later, I tried it again with a marvelous surprise, it was delicious!

Aged well, 90 minute decant really brought it out.

Typical Syrah. Nice minerality on the nose with bayleaf, blackberry and sweet licorice. Like the palate. It's smooth, polished 'wine with some make-up'. But it has depth, taste, minerality, acidity and a nice finish.

Smooth drinking, with bold dark fruit and distinct olive notes. More fruit-forward than I recalled from past bottles. Having had the opportunity to try a number of Rhone wines since the last bottle, my wife said it best: I think I'm moving away from this style (in favor of old world syrah/blends). 90ish.

A bit sweeter than I prefer and slightly syrupy. Better with food than on its own.

Very polished. Concentrated. Black fruits. A tad savoury with a bit of bacon fat. Nice acidity and tannin to provide structure. Very well made.

A nose of dark fruits and spices, dark purple in color. A medium to full bodied red, with black cherry, blueberry, licorice and spice on finish. www.winelx.com

Blackberry jam, violets, toast, and a hint of Christmas spices. Weak tannins on the finish. This wine resembles port more than Hermitage or Cote Rotie. Drink now. I don't give ratings to wines like this, which are well-made in a style for which I feel contempt.

This is a lovely Syrah that doesn't shout with obvious California warmth. I don't think I would have pegged it as CA in a blind tasting necessarily. It took a long time to fully emerge (much better on Day 2), and had a pretty benchmark palate of dark fruit and some peppery spice. I have already bought some of the 2013, which seems like it will be good. Sashi Moorman is one talented winemaker (Piedrasassi, Sandhi, Domaine de la Côte …

A thrilling and old-world nose of violets, raw meat, savory herbs, lavender and blueberry. The acidity is a welcomed match to the formidable concentration; the tannins are silken. I see no reason to wait, as I consumed this lovely Syrah straight out of the bottle. Drink now - 2023.
