Medium-dark very clear ruby. Mexican chocolate, with vanillin and a touch of red berries on the nose. Sweet mulberries and blackberries on the attack with milk chocolate seamlessly integrated. There is also a curious mildly herbal note underlying the dominant notes listed above that lingers throughout the lengthy finish. Very well made and while the quasi port-like quality isn’t my preference I still enjoyed it greatly.

At Rare wine dinner (Muru) from Magnum. On the nose subtle red/dark fruit with a hint of roasted notes. Medium bodied, smooth, silky, resolved tannins, showing subtle mellow dark fruit with a roasted aspect. Nicely developed but it felt like it is almost over the top already.

This has held up remarkably well. Inky color. Nose of dark fruit and graphite. Flavors of chocolate, blackberry, charcoal. Assertive tannins, well integrated. Long finish

The nose is mainly dried black fruit, blackberries and cherry, but some dried raspberry coming through as well, Cigar box and leather in the background, first night the fruit was fresher, second night more on the dried and cooked spectrum. The palate is intense and powerful, black cherry and damson dominating, with that cigar/box wood and leather finish. The high acidity keeping the wine fresh on the palate, long long finish heading towards dark chocolate and coffee. Plenty more years …

Red, White & Vintage (Sammamish, Washington) : Dark purple in color. Dusty raspberry, black cherry, and touches of vanilla and old wood on the nose. Great structure with noticeable tannins on the palate. Complex, with layers of flavors and tannins on the long finish.

So smooth after 3-4 hours of air (in bottle). U kind of try to guess what the main grape is but there is so many that is really difficult to pin point wich one... all around very good, amazing back bone, dark fruits, spices, fragrant, long finish. Classic Douro top notch...

A blend of who knows what (I've read that Quinta Vale Dona Maria has over 40 different varieties planted there). 15.% ABV. I let it breathe for 45 minutes then drank over the next 2 hours. Rich, juicy cherry notes with velvety tannins. Nice acidity. Starts out a little thin. I see notes from others that this is a dense wine. This doesn't have nearly the density or concentration of Napa cab, but it's probably way more ripe compared to …

Deep purple color with a bouquet and flavor of blackberries, plums, chocolate, and brambles. Very dense but with overall good balance. Quite nuanced with quite a long finish. Lovely wine.

Lovely wine! Decanted for almost 2 hrs. Bouquet jumps out with a fine balance of floral (hibiscus, rose), red fruit (dark cherry, blackberry) and herbal/vegetal (anise, caraway) notes, just endless layers. Leather & chocolate notes are prominent here as well. The oak influence is very subtle but pleasant, masterful technique here. Acidity is medium, well balanced. tannins are supple and elegant with a pleasant long finish. Body is medium + but not too much. I sense the "douro bake" but …

A private dinner (Restaurant Aan de Poel **, Amstelveen, NL) : Big and rich, glossy and fresh, ripe cherries but not currants, velvety tannins, violets, very good length. So elegant (in spite of a whopping 15% ABV) and slatey, it reminded me for a moment of the Ahr. Excellent wine, marries power and charm.

A private dinner (Restaurant Aan de Poel **, Amstelveen, NL) : Roses and cherries, floral and fragrant, slightly lactic, silky-smooth, ripe tannins covered in firm flesh, bright acidity, beautifully balanced, big but so elegant, wonderfully pure and flowing, a very individual style in the Douro valley.

The nose is ripe and full of blackberry fruit. Good intensity of flavour, still very primary with dense fruit and fine, luxurious tannins. A little charcoal and oak note under the fruit. Good acidity to balance out the ripeness of fruit. Nice.

2014 New York Wine Experience Trip; 10/14/2014-10/21/2014 (New York City, NY) : Tasted from magnum, this opaque crimson wine oozes with ripe blackberries, crushed rocks, baking spices, vanilla and espresso. Full-bodied, freshly acidic and with substantial but supple tannins, it hides its alcohol nicely and is very solid in the middle. The finish is long and smooth. This is an amazingly dense yet silky wine. Yet another surprise from a quality Douro producer! Drink now-2040.

A tremendous wine! How can a wine be so big, yet so transparent. This really balances the line between modern and rustic. It's not afraid to have some obvious tannins. They are quite fine, but the wine isn't all polish. There is something wild in the fruit. Just a wonderful wine! This is extremely young and will show much better the second and third day.

Popped and poured. Ruby. Muted nose of dark fruit, the palate is lush, fullish body, blackberry fruit, soft tannins, some crunch and freshness on the finish. Decent but lacks complexity.

Tasted alongside the little brother Rufo do Vale do Maria which, I have to say, I preferred. Perhaps this wine is a little too young? Anyway, on with the notes. Dusty library books on the nose, big blackcurrant flavours, alcohol noticeable. Not quite in balance and not for me, especially as its three and a half times more expensive than the little brother.
