While the nose held more bruised apple that I like, the palate showed no signs of fading, with power stacked on tension stacked on minerality with a long finish. Terrific wine.

This is why I looove Savagnin. Enters the Palate like a Chardonnay, citrus, ample, touch of creamy oak, but then searing acidity takes over, creaminess completely disappears and a herbal streak dominates the finish. Sensational, a top wine made for the cool climate geeks!

At restaurant "Nouvelle Auberge" (Wihr-au-Val, Alsace). A glorious white and among the best I have ever had. The wine shows a still vibrant yellow colour with minimal cloudiness. The nose is dominated by citrus with notes of green tea, stone dust (a preview of whats to come on the palate) and occasional floral whiffs adding complexity. On the palate the wine is deeply flavoured and luxuriously textured (14% ABV), yet it remains surprisingly fresh and light on its feet due …

Saw this for sale in London a few months back and it was hard to resist: aged Ganevat that wasn’t VDMP and arguably my favourite plot from him. It also had two stories: firstly, 2007 was the first vintage from Ganevat that he stopped using sulphur. Secondly, up until and including 2006, a selection of Chalasses Marnes Bleues was used for Vigne Du Mon Pere; in subsequent vintages however it is fruit from Les Champs Bernard is used for Vigne …

Deep golden color. The nose is absolutely lovely lots of intensity and depth. Notes of apple, lemon, maybe a hint of pastry and some honey, minerals, white flowers, and orange. High acidity with similar flavors, a distinct meyer lemon note, salinity, and lots of minerals on the palate. Very long finish. Wow, this is incredibly good. Probably drinking at peak now, but I don’t see this declining anytime soon.

Friday late night at home with neighbourhood friends. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is cloudy, yellow gold colour. Legs. Nose pronounced intensity, with aromas of citrus lemon curd, golden peach, honey drizzle, toasty roasted nuts. Developing. On the palate, dry, lovely high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%) medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of honey drizzle, citrus lemon curd, golden peach, yellow apple skins, wild minerality with many different stones, bit of sour ferment juice. Long textured finish. …

Beautiful bouquet with white and yellow fruits and well dosed oak. On the palate beautiful and elegant, full bodied and firm acidity, some bitterness and oak. Not an enormous length.

I did my research here before drinking this wine and I am impressed and pleased how reviews are consistent here with this one. Striking acidity, green apples, a lighter touch of honey vs. his other wines / vintages. After being amazed by the 2016, I find the 2015 way less balanced and less complex, which I did not expect 2015 being a more complete vintage and 2016 being a cooler one. This still carries high acidity. It's a great wine, …

Old vine savagnin from the master. This had not a trace of alcohol that seems to be the case with other producers working with this varietal. Golden apples, a touch of honey. A bit lacking in terms of depth that I enjoy with the chardonnay offerings.

So complex and yet still delicious and drinkable. Maybe not as lively and elegant as some of the cooler vintages, but there is so much going on here.

Sangiovese study (Chicago, IL) : The nose has a hint of lemon, but also features the saline notes that I love in the Ganevat whites. On the palate, this is fairly consistent, with the acidity really bright and intense and plenty of chewiness from the oxidative notes. A fantastic pairing with bagna cauda.

Gorgeous nose with apple, citrus, and herbal notes. After all these years, it's still slightly reduced at first, which blew off with a bit of air in the glass. Lemon, citrus, green apples, ripe fruit, and good weight on the palate. Very well balanced and long finish. Wow, this is the oldest Marnes Bleues I've had so far and it was spectacular!

A heck of a wine that is absolutely at its peak. Lovely golden color is followed by a stunning and complex nose that has corn milk, lime and yellow plum notes mixed with gravel. The palate is rich yet precise and packed with mature fruit, citrus and honey flavors. All with a zippy finish. Monumental. Really wish I had more of this. Ouille this is good - sorry but I couldn’t resist. Great wine. (95)

Retasted after one hour decanting. Exceptional hue , golden or almost like copper. Nose complex and mature dominated by baked and oxidised apples, then rhubarb, and now mature pineapple and fresh papaya. Mouth frankly straight and sharp with green lemon juice, acidity and bitter of the peal, starting with a hint of honey, old Rhum then the previously described fruits are completely overtook by the structure and the energy. Fantastic savagnin, but not for average tasters. Needs company and food.

Pnp. Mature , golden hue, turning to autumn leaves. Nose incredible of freshness, with rhubarb, quince, green lime, bakes apples, french patisserie. Mouth franc ! Vivid, sharp, with less exotic colors but strong structure, pebbles stones, chalk and whites spices and grey pepper. Genial. Let's check out in three hours of decanting...

Light golden. Yeasty, herbal and honeyed nose. The palate has lots of lime and wild herb notes to go with ripe yellow fruit flavors. A wild and natural wine that is fun to drink. Apricot finish with bracing acidity. Yum. (92)

Blind tasting. Super energical wine. Staring with an aromatic nose of oxidised apples, lemon. Mouth vivid, full of acidity and minerality, with rustle the balance code, superlong ending. A wine with personality, far from its peak.

Nice nose of prunes, slightly oxydative. Mouth real lively with a pure orange juice and a usual fine bitterness at the end (the Jura coffee touch). Long ending. Globally reduced and not fruity as it can be. Still excellent.

Deep golden color. Fragrant honeysuckle and dried corn nose. Yeasty and explosive. Still very young on the palate. There is huge flavor concentration and high acid in the back end. The texture is a bit unsettled. The flavors are unique and wonderful but I think this wine needs time to settle. (91+)

TN: Jura Night (Mon Ami Gabi - Chicago, IL) : A stellar bottle of wine. I've loved this in the past and this may have been my favorite bottle. The aromatics had all the lovely lemon, almond, flinty notes I expected with a really beautiful briny note. Reminded me of a great Chablis. Its palate was just lights out. Acidity was dialed up with the bright lemons...but this had a really nice underbelly of mushroom that was seductive. Could drink …

Coq au Vin Jaune (NYC) : Another bottle that shows why this may be Ganevat's best site. An interesting stylistic shift from the '09 that we tasted at the same time, this bottle showed a tremendous richness along with some chalky/stony notes in the nose. The intensity carried over into the palate, which, while still backed up with plenty of acidity, was ultimately balanced with a touch of bitterness on the finish. I think the comparison to serious white burgundy …

Dinner at Marc's (Marc's House - Bellingham, WA) : Incredible. Aromas of marzipan, apple, truffle, and flint. Palate was deep, layered and complex. This reminded me of grand cru burgundy...had the elegance, the flinty tones on the palate, the richness, and the acidity. Additionally, had subtle oxidative notes but this was toned down compared to many other Jura blancs.

I thought this was gorgeous. The nose is very Jura and yet this is ouille and not really oxidized. Lemony fruit, with hints of curry spice and walnut skin that you might find in a great Chateau Chalon. As good as the nose is, the mouth may be even better. The body has a concentrated feel with a lot of dry extract that comes from the old vines I would guess. The high acids of the savagnin grape are there …

Full yellow colour with a golden sheen, looks great in the decanter. Complex but austere nose of chalk, herbs, nuts, older wood and Turkish delight, deep; almost painful concentration, soaring acidity almost buffered by richness, earthy, Montrachet-like power and intensity; rather light flavours on the extremely long, woody finish. Immensely impressive, not for the faint-hearted, totally uncompromising, the wine world's answer to cask strength Islay single malt, a dry essence eked out of the soil. I can't help admiring the …

Solid golden color. The powerful nose nearly assaults you with a barrage of nuts, ginger, lemon and just a general richness that seems just barely...oaky. Can that possibly be right? Unexpected, but ever so slight and not unpleasant. Then, on the palate, medium-to-full bodied with an initial waxy fruitiness that is quickly subsumed by a saline minerality as the prominent note. Seashells come to mind. Underneath that there is a racy, herb-infused acidity balancing the richness. At this young age …

Deep opaque yellow gold. The nose is a wild mix of white truffle, tropical fruit and sage. Complex and inviting. The palate takes one aback when first sipped. The fruit is in front and mixes white peach and meyer lemon and is quite rich. Upon reflection, I'd give this a short decant just to avoid this initial awkwardness. Once it warmed and took on air, this stuff began to sing. I mean sing like Sam Cooke. The meal was perfect …

Beautiful nose of white flowers, wax, nuts, very perfumed. Rich and racy at the same time, this has plenty of depth and complexity. Fierce acidity. A Jura Savagnin of unusual finesse and beauty.
