Nice primary red fruit showing after 10 years of age. Nicely balanced with tannin and acidity. Some spicy character, too. Medium body.

First of a new case. This case also bought from a UK broker but from a different seller (has a label from MJG distribution in France). PNP on the day of delivery. Now we are back in business. This is properly stored Mount Eden Pinot! Not showing the ripe and rich black fruit of the '18 tasted recently - this is even more Burgundian than the typical Mt Eden (which I normally find quite Burgundian for a NW Pinot). Great …

Decanted about an hour before drinking. Light bricky-red color. Medium bodied with a mouth feel somewhere between bright and luscious. Delicious with a terrific berry/woody/spicy thing going on. Wonderfully balanced and great finish. Yum.

Medium deep maroon, not quite clear. Huge berry nose, pie spices. Palate is even better, rich, dense, sappy, but not overdone, medium bodied and graceful on the tongue, a feeling of lightness, the classic iron fist in a velvet glove. Quite long. Just absolutely delicious wine.

(BYO. New World Pinot) Full and rich nose. Very complex. A load of exotic, oriental spices. Perfumed. Black cherry and strawberry. Some development. Hints of coffee. Sandalwood and beginning earthy forest floor. Powerful and impressive. Medium-fullish, fullish palate. Lovely structure and balance. Silky taninns. Rich and long. Lovely grip and intensity. WOTN! Ready to go, but will benefit from 3-7 more years.

Part of a large tasting. Thought it was early for this. Fruit is dense and muscular. Structure underneath hasn't really given way. Probably will need another 10 years before really starts strutting its stuff.

Gave this an hour in the decanter after a poor showing on opening. Just feels disjointed at this stage. Better with the air but not at all what the critics suggest. Way too much respect for this producer to think this is it - must be in a bad stage or damaged during shipping (but no signs of that). B+/A-

From a secondary market source in UK. Splash decanted 60 minutes in Zalto Burgundy, and some sediment on the splash decant. Dark red color. Dark, red, concentrated fruit on the palate. Finish is a bit short but overall nice. Seems like it may be a bit early and this may get better if the fruit can hold up for some secondaries and the finish to broaden a bit. A-?

Beautifully stuffed nose. A ton of great things going on here. Very precise fruit, leaning more towards red berries and cherry. Wet forest floor, tobacco, subtle but high quality oak. An equally impressive and loaded palate, again the fruit is so vibrant. There is power here for a Pinot, yet everything remains fresh carried by the acidity. Elegant and in full balance, long finish. Gave this several hours of air and it obviously didn’t hurt the experience.

Pains me to write this note as Mount Eden Pinot is my favorite New World pinot, and certainly this one has great professional reviews, so I am puzzled by my first two bottles of this. They were purchased directly from the winery, with the only caveat being they were shipped across the Atlantic by the winery. Possible there was a temperature issue in shipping but they have been settled in ideal storage since and there were no issues with the …

Nice, but somewhat one dimensional. Rim orangish, body color darker. Dried fruit as compared to more fresh fruit on nose. Length not bad but not big or deep. Nice to have but not something I would go back too.

The fruit is sourced from a 7-acre (3 ha) vineyard, part of which was originally planted in 1945. Fermented spontaneously in small open-top fermentors, macerated with the skins for 2 weeks, aged 18 months in French oak barrels (75% new, 25% once used), bottled unfined and unfiltered. 13% alcohol. Bottle #5786 of total 9504 bottles. Translucent, luminous brick-red color with a pale, almost colorless rim. The nose feels fragrant, sweetish and somewhat oaky with layered aromas of spicy Pinosity, ripe …

Great intensity on the nose and a really long finish, took me hours to finish the bottle because I spent so much time savouring the endless pinotness - wild strawberry, cherry, orange peel, cloves, smoke, woodland earth with beautifully integrated soft oak. Good age, a Pinot with some complexity.

The 2015 Mount Eden Vineyards Pinot Noir is pale ruby in color and moderately opaque. This is incredibly young and needs a couple hours to open up, but once it does the nose showcases aromas of cherry, black raspberry, black olive, mint, freshly ground green herbs, pine, charred cedar, leather, rocky earth, and incense. Once on the palate, the wine displays notes of tart cherry, dried strawberry, boysenberry, crunchy cranberry, red licorice, rose petal, sweet tobacco, scorched earth, underbrush, rocky …

Medium plus nose does well, rose petals, cherry, fresh earth tones, light cedar, sage. Palate matches, a little smoke/mesquite is interesting, light red fruits, maybe some hint of stem inclusion (1/3 whole cluster), orange peel, sense of place, feels like higher alcohol than their Domaine Eden but it's the same.

Very ripe, slightly over-sweet for my palate. Fruit driven: raspberry leads with blackberry behind. Warm alcohol (13%). Touch of farmyard. would be interesting to see how this matures and whether the fruit will recede and the farmyard and acidity increase to give it a more Burgundian feel. Personally I doubt it. The acidity, though masked by fruit, did not seem very high. soft ripe tanins. Mediums finish not much complexity.

Better than many other West coast PNs that tend to be overly ripe, but it's still fairly fruity and ripe, with some backbone and acidity (still not fully sufficient to balance the ripe fruit, in my opinion). Somehow I like Mt. Eden Chardonnays more than the PNs across recent vintages, going back to 2010.

Hard to rate this young. Lots of sour cherry upon opening. Transformed over several hours of decanting with some riper cherry notes, horse sweat, and black tea tannins. A bit clumsy overall but good juiciness and minerality. Could be 92-94pts with more years of patience.
