A powerful Clos Vougeot that has still not reached its full potential. Opened with gorgeous plummy aromas, but then retreated into a cooler shell. The palate shows a big wine with a lot of depth, but this is not yet the right time to drink this. I think it requires another 5 years to more fully knit and show itself in a better light. Smoke, flowers petals, raspberry, pine, pot-pouri--great burg character that's complex and solidly put together. Elegant, balanced, fine tannins, still youthful with verve and a little bright red streak. 2nd and 3rd taste: a little barnyard note, lively, tangy with good minerality as well. "Sophisticated". The winner was a '12 Fourier G-C village "aux Echezeau" which was more expressive, pretty and fruity in the nose but simpler and shorter finish. Opened two bottles for a dinner party and served with Coq au Vin. Decanted for 2 hours. A truly beautiful wine that gets better and better with time. Delicate and refined with the tannins now just there as background structure. It paired so well with the chicken yet can easily be drank on its own. Some floral notes, a smorgasbord of fruit that still sings through and the alway lovely terroir.

Darker, slightly clouded dark ruby; lovely nose of pot pouri, black/red cherry compote, soft earth tones, underbrush, hint of licorice; silky and smooth on the palate, everything well-balanced if not just slightly soft--but even then tannins were present but not too firm. really nice over three nights... this was med plus acidity and lifted, with dark but red fruit, for a wine that seemed 'bright' it still had depth and a hint of umami (on night one)... thinking this has plenty of room to go... changing / extending my drinking window to 2022 to 2036 (had earlier made the last date 2032)

Quite beautiful. Still has very nice fruit and floral aromas with well balanced acidity. Slight earthy notes on the palate. Probably has a few years left, but in a very nice spot at 17 years old. Wish I had a few more bottles.

Superb. Clear and pale garnet with a tinge of yellow on the edges. On the nose fresh cranberry and earth, on the palate fresh red fruits with low tannin and medium acidity. Some mushroom and savory balances the finish. An outstanding burgundy. Special bottle for a special time. Opened with my wife and son and his wife with French style steak frites, to celebrate the birth of their daughter.

decanted 40 min. deep red, w/glints of violet; very red-berried on the early nose, modest spice notes, faintly earthy element in the back; med+ weight; youthful red fruit confiture to start, charming in fact; w/air, firms up & the acids show. still, pretty impressive, good now w/5 years of optimal drinking. buttermilk-brined roast chicken, garlicky broccoli rabe; schmaltz-roasted little potatoes

True to form, savory flavor profile with leather, tar, forest floor, and spice. Great boquet and finish. Still a lot of structure left on this and I’d say this will go for another 10 years or more.

Lovely nose of sous bois, perfumy, light savory notes, still has dark cherry fruit but with hint of sandalwood; rich silky mouth, lower acid, this has always been a little over ripe, big, and soft, but drinking deliciously tonight with squab and wagyu. Spago. Will go another 5-10 yrs.

Other liked it much more. They must like poop.

Simply spectacular. Amazing nose of dark and red fruits, sous bois, damp earth, spice, mushroom, soy, worcestershire and other umami aromas. Medium body with great balance, a silky, but also rich texture, fine tannins, plenty of grip and a lengthy, complex finish. This is one of those rare wines that is elegant, complex and deeply flavored. Perhaps even better than a year ago and not showing any signs of age other than in the increased complexity. 95-96

Canele: Still youthful, this is showing powerful soft black fruits along with lots of Asian spice, soy, dark Pinot notes; rich mouth but balanced not heavy--excellent with a richer boeuf bourgignon or coq au vin (my dish). This has got lots of fruit and spices, balance, and power. Excellent now, but try again in 3-5yrs.

Granted its a 2005 and still at the start of its drinking window but the Girardin style helps it being expressive even at this time. Quite dark fruited, light smoky at times good core of fruit, balanced and full of life. We just got a glimpse of what this wine could be but it was a very nice glimpse. 92-93
