Domaine Jean-Louis Tribouley Côtes du Roussillon Otto

Opened one hour in advance. Rich red fruit aroma with a pickly edge. Full black fruit flavors with a licorice cherry finish. This has matured beautifully. There are certainly some funky and VA-like elements, but those are window dressing over a solid, complex, robust, and still lively core of a traditional Rhone styled wine. It's quite possible there's more bottle variation on this wine than is the norm, but both bottles I've had have been winners.

Gamy verging on grubby nose. Hoped the grubbiness would disappear with air but it didn't. Very slight fizz on palate and unpleasantly furry tannins. Something not right here .... Ditched it.

Powerful, juicy but elegant. Great carignan backbone. Leather, black fruíts and spice.

I didn't get the spritz that the comments below discuss, but the wine has an unusual nose that is not reflected in its taste. I really loved this, and it's a terrific wine to drink with hearty meat dishes and strong cheese. I'm very, very concerned about the environment, and I purchased this bottle as one of a number of wines that I am randomly trying in the Jenny & Francios Selections portfolio. I once mentioned Jenny & Francois to a salesman at Kermit Lynch and he snarkily referred to their wines as "chemistry experiments". While that term is best reserved for the Scholium Project, I can understand how this wine would give that impression. In a nutshell: Open this wine and pour it at least one hour before drinking. Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan, biodynamic; some vines 50+ years old. Very dark, big bitter and gamey nose with soy sauce, salt-cured olives. Slightly spritzy at first and super intense, filled with ripe, sweet fruit and nice Syrah/gamey overtones and a grippy, bitter finish. Pretty interesting wine, worth the $22 tariff.

This wine is crazy. Horse nose, spritz in the glass, after 5 mn spritz was gone and made place for a truley rich bouquet. You gotta love biodynamics :)
