Tastes so young! Good acidity, grassy notes, quince? No rush on these

I always enjoy the Baron L, like a white Bordeaux without the oak, only lees and steel tank married with ripe Sauvignon and low yields. Stands the time. A classic!

The Baron de L always needs quite some time to fully blossom. The bouquet merges varietal notes of freshly cut grass and gooseberries with cream and some stone fruit. The palate is medium to full with good acidity and richness. This is drinking beautiful right now, but having tried older examples, I believe it will easily hold for another decade.

Tried at Oinoscent. Dark yellow color with the nose showing a wide range of aroams, buttery, caramel and honey notes, syrup, tin stone fruit, spicy, earthy, mushroom, nutty and grassy when it actually warms up. In the palate, the wine is much more fruity and grassy, fresh vegetal notes, citrus, lime, ripe pineapple, medium body and acidity with medium to long finish. Outstanding quality, needs time to open up, feels at its peak but would keep it a bit more.

Still strong. Lovely minerality, pronounced acidity, some citrus fruits on the nose. Was afraid this would be tired by now. But no. From magnum.

Very forward and opulent nose with flowers, truffles and concentrated lemonade. Sweet attack, lots of glycerine but also with the sauvignon acidity keeping things in check. On the back palate you detect some heavy buttery notes. It defies comprehension that this has seen no oak, just low yields and lees. Long finish. A food wine for sure.

Very nice. Remarkably similar to a rose from Provence we were drinking at the same time.

Definitely a beautiful wine! great balance, great length. A light sweetness in the back palate, after initial fresh notes of citrus and white flowers. Still young but VERY drinkable already. In my opinion, it probably could easily age another several years... Pity I only have 1 bottle left. Fortunately I have just received 7 of Dagueneau's cuvee Silex, even if they are 2014. I will just have to be patient...

Tasted Feb 2016. Bought Majestic Wines UK in 2016 for £55.00 Well chilled. Cork closure. On opening cork was in good condition. Best thing about this excellent Loire Sauvignon Blanc is it's aroma: leaps out of the glass at you, yet is subtle too. All class. Lovely fruit, wet wool complexity, limestone too, nice minerals, river stones, stewed gooseberries, hint of citrus and apple. It's all goin' on! Colour is a good straw. Taste is of an impressive wine, yet …

Extraordinary. Fresh and crisp. A very slight nutty taste was the only hint that this wine was nearly 20 years old. Great juice.

Really an outstanding wine!!! Juicy sauv blanc goodness with added complexity due to wood aging. Candied citruses, nice sapidity, white fruits, a hint of vanilla. Ready now but could age much longer.

A private lunch (Restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL) : Classic Loire core of acidity and pure Sauvignon flavours, honeyed and silky, so floral it might almost be a Riesling, ripe but not lacking tension, elegant and seamless, very good length. A classic Baron de L from a riper vintage.

Ripe and honeyed style, rich and satisfying but without the tension, energy and excitement of the previous bottle. At restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL.

A really beautiful Baron de L, all about harmony, balance and finesse as per usual, very slightly riper because of the warm vintage but with perfectly integrated juicy acidity, lovely elegance and tension, flavours of lemon, chalk, white peach and green herbs; very good length. Delicious, forward but stylish. At restaurant De Lage Vuursche, Lage Vuursche, NL.

Even better, livelier, and more youthful that the 2000 that followed. A real treat. Honey without sweetness...amazed.

A stunning wine - Sauvignon blanc at its best. Beautiful acidity with citrus zest coming through mixed with a soft buttery finish almost reminiscent of a classic burgundy - quite an intoxicating combination.

Drank in London Incredibly complex with a lovely balance and an acidic backbone. Wonderful stuff. Still very young and will mature nicely.

Very primary, but very much on its own. This is not the everyday young Sauvignon Blanc from Loire. Much more concentrated (low yield) and with more tropical fruity notes. The prolonges time on lees acan also be detected (more complexity, but no yesty notes) Mango, pineapple but with good acidity and quite lively in the mouth.

Oxidised bouquet. On the palate a lot of nuts, acidity and bitterness. Also oxidised. Mushrooms and medicine. Must have been better. No score.

Les Blancs de Pessac-Léognan @ my place (Netherlands) : Opens up with a lovely soft and unctuous, flower driven bouquet and mouthfeel. Impresses me as slightly over the hill. Alas, it fades very quickly and dies in the glass. Off-bottle?

Very soft and elegant. Drank a few weeks ago so I'll pull from memory. Flinty and smokey, minerals and starfruit with lime blossom. The palate was like an essence of the nose, so soft and refined. Long finish which again was so soft. I really enjoyed the elegance. Certainly not for the macho sav. blanc drinker.

Saturday, August 13, 2005 Beautifully balances with smoke, flint, lime, mineral, anise, some boxwood and round, rich melon (cantaloupe?) flavors. A very lively wine despite the age. 12.5% alc. Between this and the other two wines who could chose. You might have preferences, but who could say which was the better made wine? Part of the SB blow out. All of the last 3 with roasted oysters quesadillas, steamed shrimp, shrimp bruschetta, curried lump crab on endive, cheeses of St. …

Wednesday, June 26, 2002 What a wonderful wine. First experience with this. Golden (but not bright) yellow color with nose of melon, mineral, citrus and lemon cream. Good heft and mouthfeel. The fruit fades into some vanilla notes and finishes with the mineral. Excellent example of balance. Long finish. Very nice - almost exquisite- wine. With grilled bacon wrapped shrimp, scallops and tuna. With the Tinsleys, Smileys and K. Frank at the beach. Butch particularly liked this wine. Saturday, July …

Still very young, but clearly a wonderfully stylish Pouilly, with the ripeness of 1997 and steely acidity, flavoursome but tight, good future, top notch.
