Albino Rocca Barbaresco Ronchi

Wines of Piedmont Hosted by Steve Alley (Vintage Wine Storage - 10615 Metric blvd Austin, TX 78758) : Enjoyed at a wine tasting event featuring wines of the Piedmont. Pale garnet color, medium minus body. Fermented in neutral wood. Notable tar and rose on the nose. In development, starting to show well. Lots of red fruit clusters. Tannin, acids and fruits still need time, but this should be excellent in another three years big finish. Drink through 2034+.

Medium ruby in glass. Medium intensity on the nose. Cherries, pomegranate, tar, violets, and balsam. Medium plus acidity and tannins. Modern and ripe in style. Drink or hold.

An absolutely wonderful Barbaresco last night from Albino Rocca and their 2019 Ronchi vintage. Super elegant and full harmony, a tannin structure that in my book reveals that we are not in Barolo. Rose petals, orange peel, and finely tuned fruit that give a Burgundian feel. The wine had about 2 hours in the carafe. Very nice, well made, surprisingly open, easy to enjoy, and generally delicious. But is it a tad simple for the price? Or maybe that’s just the going price for quality Barbaresco these days.

Well that is a very lovely perfume to it. And more delicate on the palate. Quite fine.

Tasted at the winery. Light to medium garnet color. The nose on this wine is floral and minerally like the Ovello but it smells distinctly sweeter and fruitier. Definitely more concentrated and structured than the Ovello too. This comes off as powerful, rich and savory with a layer of darker red fruit. Still, it is very precise and balanced with a long finish. Take your choice...One more elegant, the other more powerful...Both excellent!

Barolo Trip; 4/3/2022-4/7/2022 (Barolo) : Fifth wine tasted at Albino Rocca. Old vines, silt and clay soils. Little sand and very steep slopes. Complex, spicy. Good value here.
