Honeyed nose infused with some ginger. The palate is nicely tertiary, with interesting mushroom notes combined with herbs and yellow fruit. However, this is predominantly mineral, with a light nuttiness from the tertiary characteristics. Structurally taut with good tension throughout the wine. Perhaps the alcohol is a bit ponderous, but there's still plenty of energy and lift.

Prufrock's Fall Portfolio Tasting (VinoPDX, Portland OR) : The nose is layered and mature with petrol notes striking right off the bat before leaning into tones of red apples, quince, Meyer lemons, kumqaut, pears, fresh herbs, saline, and crushed rock notes. The Medium bodied feel is deft and layered with tart, high acidity that is well integrated. This is showing beautifully right now. There is excellent layering with still a bit of freshness to the tones while melding together in …

Reductive upon opening, but blew off after 30 minutes. A beautiful golden color, lovely mouth feel, lemon and orchard fruit. Paired wonderfully with seared sea bass, Kobacha squash purée, agrodolce onions, saffron vinaigrette, and pomegranate.

Seems unfair for me to rate as I think this was drinking as it should have and in good shape too for the age. Just not my style of reisling - falls flat for me w/ overly round/viscous texture and no acidity. not enjoyable

Nose is a bit reticent, subtle lime and white florals. Palate is full of white peach, lime rhind, minerality and high acid. It does have some weight mid palate and feels a bit clunky at times but overall drinking great. Finish is dominated by citrus and a little warmth. Great now and ready to go but still has plenty of life ahead.

A powerful, full bodied, warm vintage example of Knoll Riesling. The nose is very mineral driven, lemon zest compliments by earth, wet leaves and wet stone. The palate is something else entirely - Over ripe yellow peaches, over ripe melons, ripe passion fruits with the mineral notes from the nose (especially the wet stone) coming right at the end of the palate. Full bodied, only medium acid which was a bit of a surprise. High alcohol. Not sure why people …

10 years after Riesling tasting - 2011 (Restaurant Waldhorn, Kirchheim, Germany) : Glass: Sophienwald Universal Bottle double decanted about 7h before the tasting. Bought at release, perfectly stored. As always a pleasure and a wonderful example to trick people in blind tasting. Schütt is always more “Pfalz” than “Wachau” to me and never loaded with botrytis. Dinner at Jade Court (Chicago, IL) : Sharpie marker, aldehydic, and very high-toned on the nose and palate. Some nice white florals here, and enough acidity to keep the sweeter elements in check, but overall, not too much a fan of those elevated notes.

The waiter suggested this rather than the richer 2009, and he was right, this had plenty of richesse, a creamy texture and a full fruit - but also acidity and balance; grüner veltliner remains underestimated - and they can age. #Studio

Clear bright yellow-green, with nothing in the colour indicating the age. The aromas here are much more tropical than what I'm used to for Wachauer wines; tinned pineapple, peach, apricots. The other note here alluding to aldehydes/"sharpie-marker" is spot on. Not a negative thing for me, maybe a little distracting but there's enough primary fruit here. The extract on the mouthfeel is quite daunting at first and it takes some time for the palate to calibrate. It's hefty and a …

Citrus and apple nose with medium intensity. Citrus, stone and tropical fruit, some salty and wet slate or gravel minerality on the palate. Good balance, creamy texture, well-integrated stingy acidity to balance the intense aromas, the slightly sweet fruit and keep it fresh. A good Riesling, a lot is going on. I like the minerality but just slightly too much baby fat for my taste. A few years of cellaring will certainly help. PNPed and singing from the get-go. No …

Sunday blinds (Chicago, IL) : Served double blind. There's a bit of high-toned aldehyde/Sharpie marker here on the nose, but otherwise, this is an incredibly aromatic wine, with some really nice florals. Based on the nose, I wanted to go to viognier, but the acidity wasn't quite right for that -- there was just too much of it and the cut here was simply a lot sharper than most northern Rhones.

Shows very green fruit, with a sweet edge, like kiwi or honeydew, but it's so green that there's a definite vegetal edge. Medium weight with good concentration and wonderful minerality. I really like the minerals and I still enjoyed it overall but the vegetal component gets stronger with air and keeps me from really loving this.

Medium straw with marked viscosity and legs in the glass. This is predominately a mineral-driven bone dry Riesling in a characteristic Austrian style. Peachy and apricot on the nose with a hint of lime and pit. Green apple, barely ripe peach in the mouth. From 75cl, perfect cork. Opened thoughtlessly, many years too early. Instantly recognizable as the product of an exceptionally great vineyard, this is – alas – giving about as much away right now as a Montrachet or Corton Charlemagne of the same vintage might: i.e. not much. So duh, we opened this bottle several years too soon. Almost insubstantial, watery entry; mid-palate drier than any other Riesling I can remember tasting (other than perhaps Beyer's Comtes de Eguisheim); strong acid gain …

Glass: Marienglass White wine Clear, golden color. Beautiful Wachau Riesling. Dry, good, medium + acidity, complex. Baroque in the best sense, balanced, never to fat or broad, but with ripe fruit, high abv (14,5 %), lots of phenols and long, lingering taste. Obviously still an infant, but joyfull to drink now. Bottle was purchased on a trip to Austria and brought back--boy am I glad I did and what a way to remember the visit! The nose on this wine is wonderful. Drunk over two days. Flawless nose, showing minerality, ripe peaches, jasmine and a hint of hydrocarbon. Disciplined and agile on the palate, with the acidity seamlessly woven in and not at all tart or spiky, as it can be in cheaper Rieslings (the euphemis du jour is 'zippy', which I now by Pavlovian association ascribe to bad whites). A sense of fatness and body pervades the palate - this is one of the bigger Rieslings I have drunk recently. A …

Wachau - fine wines from the difficult 2014 vintage, and some other treasures; 9/14/2015-9/18/2015 : Closed aromatically, perhaps a hint of smoke (or SO2?) The entry packs a strong acidic punch which grows more identifiably lemon-like on the mid-palate with an attractive stony quality (like licking stone dust?) Short finish. 87-89P?

Purchased off the wine list at La Veranda on our last evening in Prague. Popped and poured. Gold hue. Nose of alpine floral notes, white stone, peach, and citrus. Palate demonstrated full, almost opulent layers of grapefruit, lime, and white peach balanced by sharp, energizing acidity and a flinty mineral spine. Very long finish of white fruit, stone, and cut. Nicely done and an excellent pairing with octopus and sea bass.
