The 2014 Pundit Syrah is wonderfully approachable and full of character at this stage. The nose opens with a dark, inviting mix of black cherry, blackberry, and ripe plum, lifted by notes of violet, black pepper, and a hint of smoked bacon. On the palate it’s juicy and supple, showing that classic Washington State interplay of generous fruit and cool-climate spice. Paired with NY Strip. I have tasted several vintages of this wine. While delightful, I found it to be more medium bodied and lacked some of the earthiness of previous tastings and what I tend to expect from Washington Syrahs. This wine is more blue fruit and a little sweet.

Que Sera Sera (Mike's House) : This amazingly got 2nd place against several other syrah at our tasting, losing only to 2012 Carnival of Love. This wine was more balanced than most of them. It had some earth and wasn't crazy big.

The last time I tried this wine was at a holiday party in 2016. I had already purchased two bottles and was disappointed with my purchase. I laid down the two bottles in my cellar in hopes that time would bring it together. What a pleasant surprise! Nice nose. Lots of dark fruit and some tobacco. Not a lot of complexity, and a rather short finish, but drinking nicely now.
