Amazing - Clean, almost slightly floral (white) with mineral driven excellence! 96-97, plenty of acid and lift with balance, tannins and perfect bubbles/ mouth feel that’s astonishingly refreshing. No reduction. Obviously young for such a great vintage! Enjoy

Apotheosis of old Krug champagne. Medium burnished gold, some bubbles. Lots of walnuts, dried leaves, bruised apple - but not overly oxidative. A myriad of odors and flavors, very complex. very enjoyable yet quite challenging such that you don't want to guzzle the whole bottle.

Light gold. Fine bubbles. Fresh, distinct, complex. Red fruits, also citrus, honey, pear, biscuit. Medium bodied. Very good intensity and follow through. Exceptional drinking tonight.

Advanced state of maturity, medium dark gold. Some bubbles, consistent with age. Resembles the 1995 in flavor profile but not quite as expressive. Very good but would be better if it were fresher.

Boatloads of Dom and Krug + a full 2008 Clos Saint Jacques Horizontal (S.K.Y.) : Similar to a bottle last month, this is closed and flat. I get the sense the fruit is trying to open up but alas this tight and restrained.

First Growth plus Ausone and LMHB dinner (1789 Restaurant, Georgetown, Washington, D.C.) : Medium expressive fully mature nose displaying decadent yellow fruit, baked apple, dry apricot, brioche, honey, sweet spices and mineral. Fully integrated palate, subtle but sweet yellow fruit, round and sweet, fine medium generous mousse, bright acidity, strong mineral, and a medium to long sweet yellow fruit driven finish with honey at the end. It is drinking well but no need to wait.

Delicious Krug in its sweet spot. Ample, creamy, very fresh and focused, great energy and perfect balance. Although it is drinking truly beautifully now I suspect it will still continue to improve. The epitome of a great champagne with a long future ahead.

Nose: nuts, fig, apricot, pear, orange rind Notes: 12% ABV. 40% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay, 21% Pinot Meunier. Krug has always been a very safe choice and its often very consistent. The 2002 is a little restrained on the nose but the palate is quite intense. However, I remain a bit iffy on this vintage for Krug as this is the second bottle I've had and overall I can't say I'm overly impressed. Drink: now+ Rating: 89

Magnifique bouteille.

Having finished all of my 1996 (first world problems) I tried my only bottle of the 1995. It is unfair to compare, but this was nowhere near the complexity of the 1996. Apple, pear, orange, toast, and light nuttiness, though mostly primary. Great power, mousse, and finish.

Far and away the best bottle of ‘98 Krug that I’ve experienced. Medium to deep gold color, with notes of hazelnut, freshly baked brioche, and hints of lemon curd. Medium to full bodied, with a creamy texture, unreal depth, and impeccable delineation, focus and grip on the long finish. Perfectly mature.

As always a treat. Although I do not like the champagnes with an aggressive mousse, it was gone for 95 %. Bottle? But this was the only minor shortcoming.(?), in this nutty, ripe fruity, energetic wine. great!

Rouget Cros Parantoux Dinner & Lunch with Montrachet to Start; 12/5/2025-12/6/2025 (Chicago, IL) : 2002 flight. Rich and lush orchard fruit aromas and flavors, just more advanced than this wine should be. Very drinkable, easily enjoyable, but a shadow of previous sensational bottles.

A whole seven years since we had this last ( Papies 93-95) and really at a great place and definitely more youthful that we would have thought. Albeit one needs to be careful with old Krugs as depending when released the disgorgement varies still this was on point. Nice rich feel but in harmony and with an elegant feel. Proper 95

Toasty on the nose, with fresh apple, roasted almond, and a note of vanilla. Med body, med+ acid, low tannin, and vibrant bubbles. This is still vibrant and racy hardly showing its age. Absolutely beautiful and able to age for at least another 20 years. Try again in 3-5.

Old gold in colour. Aromas of mandarin peel, machine oil, and gentle oxidative notes with a hint of nougat. The palate is steely and mineral, carrying that mandarin peel character through to a long, precise finish. A complex and contemplative wine showing the mature, structured side of Krug.

Dinner (Restaurant Einstein **, St. Gallen, Switzerland) : Clear, deep golden color. One of the more advanced bottles I had so far. Beautiful fine, elegant and red fruity nose. Fine brioche and crushed stones. Obviously a totally different style from Selosse, but today on the same level as the Substance 2021 we had earlier this day. Wonderful balance, beautiful tension and energy, very elegant and long. 95

Leaps and bounds more complete and superior to the 2011 and 2003 served in the flight. Reference and solid. Fresh, powerful, structured, crunchy white fruit. More youthful bottle (from Maison) than my June 2025 note. This can be enjoyed now but best results certainly ahead. A reference, bullet for the ages indeed. Notes from memory at a non-la-fête Krug dinner last night.

Have not checked in on a 2003 in a long while and I thought this was actually quite good. These were obviously super fresh bottles from MH but nonetheless I found this to be reasonably well balanced and intact. There is tons of ripeness and richness but stops short of being overblown and flabby with great freshness. Dense, toasty, pleasurable. Good bottles are fine to drink now, would consume all now. At a Krug tasting with 2011, 2008, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2000, 1998 and 1995. Tasted both in magnum and in bottle side-by-side. The two were very different on the nose, with the magnum showing that lovely flinty and grassy magnum effect. However, both wines were surprisingly similar on the palate, with a lovely mix of acidity, fruit, tertiary notes and length. However, this was outshone by the bottles around it, particularly the 2002 and 1995 Collection.

Short note. Very autolytic, bruised apples, light hazelnut notes, dark bread notes, lots of caramel notes with more time. The palate is much fresher, hazelnut and bruised apple carry over with a long nutty/caramel apple finish. Really enjoyable, but perhaps not a blow-me-away bottle for the price.

From Magnum: A very light touch of oxidation, which in Champagne, either doesn't bother me or can be a slight add to the wine. In this case, it is the former as the Champagne is so wonderful to start. Krug is my favorite because of its depth, power, multiple points of attack and flash that hits you with incredible precision while still being somewhat light on its feet - think Ali in his prime. Acidity, minerals, lemon and mandarin zest, …

Wines with jerk chicken (Chicago, IL) : Much better than I remember it a few years ago. The torrid vintage has still left its mark with a yellow (over white) fruit profile that does have a modest hint of roastedness. Broad on the palate the way the 163eme alongside doesn't accomplish. Much more open and expressive on the nose and palate today. This doesn't seem like a long-term vintage of Krug, but in spite of my protestations years ago, it's …

46% Pinot Noir, 29% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Meunier, disgorged in the summer of 2013. The nose was extremely subtle and soft and stayed like that for the full bottle, although it did open up more and more over the hours. Never experienced this with a Krug Vintage before, that have all been explosions. The palate though was absolutely singing… Deep, rich and that signature Krug Power!
