Still a very youthful purplish color. Aromas of crème de cassis, lilies, ultra ripe boysenberry, and vanilla-tinged oak. Full-bodied, this is rich and round with loads of tannin that are nicely concealed under the considerable robe of fruit. Blackberry liqueur, boysenberry preserves and cedary oak. This is still somewhat primary at almost 14 years of age! The finish is very long and shows hot rocks and scorched earth. This is really excellent and shows everything I love about the best …

This is still trucking along fine Gave it a 2 hour decant that seemed fine since the wine didn't change much over the next two hours or so. Nice dark plummy taste that may lack a little complexity, so maybe it is time to drink up.

approachable but still a bit young in my opinion. I think this wine deserves more credit. Its remarkably consistent through the vintages, generally approachable in its youth, ages well over the medium term, and is an excellent value.

At Alibi in Oporto. Served VERY warm, I iced the decanter for close to 15 minutes to bring it to a proper temp. Loaded with developed aromas of dark brambles, leather shop and slice. Baked black cherries with herbs and oak. The palate is med-full bodied with chalky tannins and is fully mature with flavors of black berry and cherry, this has plenty of life left. Drink now-2032 93

Double blind. Dark youthful color with a lovely opening perfume followed by red and black fruit tobacco, leather and currants. Full-bodied with medium tannins and flavors of leather, black fruit, cherry cordial and chocolate. Picks up a sappy, resinous element with air. Nice complexity; excellent. (R&R)

Purple in the glass, this looks still young. Nose on blueberry, tobacco, blackcurrant. On the palate, tannins are integrated, more dark fruit and savoury notes. Acidity lift balancing the whole package, and long finish. Time has helped and this should still drink well for at least another 5y

A 50mm natural cork enclosure is always promising. Deep ruby in colour (bit young perhaps) and the med(+) nose is complex yielding dark jammy notes, smoke, plum, cassis, red fruit gums, liquorice and cigar box. The palate: Med(+) for body, acidity and fine tannins. Impressive balance and a good long fruit driven length marred only by a hint of a sour edge. I spoiled myself with a pan fried rib-eye steak. Yum!

Definitely some aging notes (which, for me, detracts). But also a core of darker fruit remains. Currant, black cherrry. Subtle tobacco and coffee notes trail behind.

One of the most wonderful wines I ever tasted from Portugal🍷👏 An amazing dark bright mostly cloudy purple color. A breathtaking👏 Medium to full body. Medium acidity. Noticeable tanines but still feels smooth. Lovely structure👏 Lovely aromatic, barrels, spices, terroir, red & black fruits👏 Rich, complex, intensive & powerful wine, but in an harmonic & balanced manner. Coffee, chocolate, coconut, plum, blackberries, pomegranate, strawberries, pepper, licorice, ginger, stone, leather 👏 Wonderful wine🍷👏🍷

Guys Port Weekend - Vegas, Jan 2024; 1/25/2024-1/26/2024 : Dark ruby with light brown hints. The nose features old dusty wood notes, cranberry, red currant, and woody undertones. The palate shows good tannins and a dusty thread that lingers through the finish. Ready to drink now, with no further aging expected to improve it.

Modest nose of spring flowers, creosote, charred oak, vanilla and blue and blackberry. Full-bodied, this is a bit rugged with a nice tannic structure and bright acidity. Blueberries and hot gravel on the palate. This is a bit underwhelming, but good nonetheless. I expected more. Drink now -2028 91

The wine was still quite dark showing very little maturity on the rim. Mostly dark fruit with plum and blackberry flavours. It did seem somewhat linear and lacking freshness or acidity. I think it is time to drink this up if you have some in your cellar.

Best after 2-3 hours of decanter time, but can be had at PnP. Lots of fruits and acidity, with smooth tannins. The wood is borderline intrusive, but mostly comes across as charred cinnamon. Very full mouth feel and whiffs of alcohol. All in all, I still like this wine, but it could get a higher score if the negatives (wood and alcohol) were more integrated.

Popped and poured. Truly a beautiful bottle of wine. Exceeded my wildest expectations. In the middle of its wheelhouse, right now. Black ruby , with legs. Excellent nose, with plum and blue fruits. There is a nice density and richness the fruit in the mouth. Very, very nice. Really reinforces the impression I got of Portuguese reds when I was there last year. A beauty. 5-13-16-8: 92/100.

I first scored this wine in May 2017 (89 p). Have had a few bottles since and the wine has continuously improved and evolved. Presents itself rather differently now, much better. Still rich fruit, cassis at the fore, but with added layers of complexity, as well as more heft. Really like it as it is, a great wine. Previous bottle I had was in March 2021. Presents itself similar to that experience, so believe now in its prime window. Believe …

Apparently this wine was the first Portuguese wine to make Spectator 100. Certainly happy to try it although I think the 2004 bottle I tried is showing its age. It was a 375mk bottle and I would not be afraid to try a larger format that has been stored well. Def drink now. One reviewer wrote that these bottles don’t improve with age just change - I didn’t know what that meant until now. Nose throws off super ripe blackberry, …

Enjoyed with fettuccine. Blue scented, pours a deep red with no real signs of oranging yet. ribbon candy and pink taffy nose, with some Tahitian vanilla and Zanzibaribbean Fuu fruit. Neutral-ish on the palate, yet full bodied with date pastes, leathery drying tannin, turbinado, black cherry and cigar box.

Medium ruby with Garnet edges. Aromas of plum, blackberry, forest floor, and eucalyptus. This is a dry wine with medium body and high alcohol and high acidity. Tannins are medium plus with medium intensity flavors of blackberry, plum, eucalyptus, and forest floor. This Wayne has a medium minus finish and it’s a good wine that should be drunk now. This wine is slightly imbalanced and the tannins and alcohol overwhelm the fruit flavors. The finish is much shorter than I …

Decanted just before dinner, required a while to show its beauty. Had recently my last bottle from the 09 vintage and decided not to buy another, but this is much better and brings me into a dilemma. Still huge and powerful, dark fruited, but not jammy, shows even some elegance and good freshness. In the background there is a hint of funk, not much but it makes it really interesting, the finish is very long. Still quite youthful, if drinking …

Having had cases of Old Vines from almost all vintages, this one is not aging well. It’s become very linear, light bodied, with a rather short finish for an Old Vine Reserva. I’d suggest drinking up soon. And this was bought on release and stored properly.

From a 375. Last night, after 30 mins of air it was still dark and brooding, almost youthful. Had some nice backbone but the next day way more expressive. Lots of bramble, mocha, stewed plumbs and blackberry compote. Loooong finish, maybe 40+ seconds. Have a few more in the cellar and will enjoy them!

Wasn't expecting much, as the last bottle I tried was OTT. Still very deeply purple/black coloured, there's a nice nose of tar, black fruits and a slight herbal and floral note. Still a big, ripe, rich wine on a full bodied palate, with similar flavours, and a mouth coating texture, ripe tannins and a lengthy finish. This showed much better than the previous bottle, and should last quite a while (B+/A-).

On immediate opening perhaps a little mean on the tannins and savoury profile, but after a good few hours of being open it reveals a gorgeous juicy depth of brambly fruit, savoury notes and a fairly intense liquorice note too. Nice now, decanting recommended, and with age for sure to allow some of that oak to integrate more. Delicious.
