Consistent to last note, combining freshness with power. Really fun right now.

Excellent Chardonnay from Friaul. A rich bouquet of peaches, honey, butter and minerality. Now in a really good place with quite some oomph. I guess I would drink it over the next 5 years.

Over the course of three days faded down. But also started more savory than its fruitier earlier self. So time to drink up or is it changing phases into maturity. My last bottle so I guess I won't know!

In a great place right now. Smoke, fruit, fatty richness across the palate. Lingering. Served with black pepper pecorino pasta. Perfect fit.

With some smoke and chardy chard. Big and rich but not lacking for texture or vibrancy.

Straw>Gold, clear and bright. Was pleasantly surprised to see this was both a screwcap, and also took just 2-3 minutes before it opened up to reveal warm orchard/white fruits with some matchstick, ripe pear and a hint of butter cream. Medium>medium+ palate with good acidity. By the second glass, this had opened even more and seemed more akin to Grand Cru Burgundy than anything from Northern Italy. By the third pour, seashell, saline, chalk and soil revealed themselves to complement …

Another restaurant purchase (see prior note of same vintage) and a very different experience. Heavy and wooden. Didn't float.

This wine dominated at a restaurant dinner of non wine geeks, drawing accolades and an immediate reorder. Tremendously taut and poised and with just enough body to give true aid and comfort. Balance pursued, balance captured.

Deep, dark golden color. Nose still of mostly tropical fruit. Full bodied, on the viscous side, mature notes of caramel, butterscotch, and some pinapple. Probably waited a bit too long for this one. Much bigger wine than I recall.

Here's to the last of my 375s. At pop and pour. Aromas of mineral and creamy fruit. It's rather tropical. Banana and some lean pineapple. On the palate, still shows some rounded herb edge up front. Also, licorice and green olive. All the same, a very pure and classed palate. Very mineral and smooth, almost glassy texture. 2 hours in and some oak starts to creep into the aromas, acting as a spark to some more mineral composition. Not as …

Not faded at all. Still really fresh. Lemon curd, pineapple, vanilla - very smooth. Long finish - good acid. Great silky mouthfeel. Great with my grilled fish platter. I would get more of this one.

Waterford Staff Party 2.0 (Waterford Wine Co., Milwaukee) : A real treat in the sense that I didn't have to open my last half bottle to get this opportunity. Lean pineapple juice is but a really rich palate...and thoughts of peanut butter. This is the wine that left me guessing the whole day. Numerous times and I went back to the first part of this note, only to not edit.

Steely, lemon, mineral, oxidative touch. A little flat and showing some sweet vanilla oak aromatics. Good with smoked salmon and king crab salad.

Really, no signs of fading here. Creme fraiche, cream soda aromas. Winter mint. Lemon crystals, thinking about the 'bush' in punch. Lemon rinds sitting in sugar for weeks.

Unscrewed and poured, from a 375. Fantastic. Deep color and aromas. Nutty, but not overly oxidized. Medium body, not heavy or buttery, pears and apples. Gorgeous acidity. Drinking very well now, and should hold on for a few more years. $30/375 at a restaurant.

No decanting. Golden color with slight green tinges. Nose: oak is present, but so is an enticing green apple aroma. The attack is creamy and lush, yet underpinned by bracing acidity. This keeps a chardonnay fermented in oak's tendency to turn flabby in check. Nice winemaking style; agile. Green apples on the long finish. Wasn't bowled over, but a nice bottle nonetheless. No premature oxidation sign whatsoever. Con: Pricey. 13.5% abv.

this isn't really going to get the proper treatment tonight, getting drank over the course of 2 hours and all. with a gingerbread cookie this wine comes across seamless. on the nose rather soft, plush minerality of beginnings of middle age. palate shows richness with flints of the fruit starting to show aged qualities. although it seems obviously self conscious about its age. thoughts of tropicola on the palate. cream soda and coconut cream is tropicola. a really, really, really, …

from 375ml. pop and pour really showing some barrel. nothing too in your face, but rather apparent out the gate. much more mineral than fruit on the nose. palate shows spicy oak front to back. the spice lingering all over the finish of this wine. i really want to let this see some air, as i've found it to be quite friendly to this wine over 6-12 hours of air. really starting to soften up at 3 hours. much more …

Norris Wedding Whites Before Dinner (Beloit College) : From 375. Volcanic ash. Pitched black grain. Kerosene. A beauty. DAY 2. there's that subtle seaweed note. along side a quiet soy sauce. all a part of the descending oak expression? yeah, a soft grain. a thought of a positively bright acidity, indicating 'climate.' Showing much more resolve of oak in the nose than the Ca' del Bosco 2004. So crystalline on the palate. a piercing purity.

from 375ml. this is so fine. i need to put this in a field of chardonnay and see how it fares. on pop and pour it displays a classy expression of richness of fruit without being fruity. harmonizing oak treatment and mineral depth on the nose. textural caress. this wine is really in a sweet spot.

from 375ml. pop and pour. elegant oak and liquorice. gonna let this guy open up all night. the nose gives the impression of negative space or at least the width of space to be occupied with exposure to air. sweet pineapple fruit appears uncloyingly. upfront on the palate richness shows, but then balanced with nice acid on the back end with minerality being the vague discriptor on the first sip. after an hour open the oak on the nose is …

Good god this is good. A lemon lime thing on the nose that wasn't there a couple of months ago. And then all chalk or wet granite to the nose. The palate is this big textural exploration and I swear the finish lasts for two minutes. Wild wine. Just starting to enter its drinking window in my opinion. Not quite getting the "Jermann" nose yet.

Wanted to see where this is starting from, as I just accessioned half a case into the cellar. Drank half of a 375 and leaving the rest for tomorrow, as I recall this does wonders for it. Update to follow later tonight.

So my thought was that this keeps getting better and better with air. I decided to put that thought to the test. I decanted a 375 ml in a Riedel duck at 8 am, poured it back into the bottle at 10:30, and let it stand open until 2. I tasted it lightly all the way through that time. And it does keep getting better and better. Where (or should I write were?) it used to be just toasty Chardonnay …

Peter Pratt's Luguresque Offline - Italian Table (Peter Pratt's Inn - Yorktown Heights) : Reall nice. Much nicer on initial approach than a bottle of this I opened on Monday. Both bottles filled out to very similar places, although this one I think showed just a tad better. Lovely floral notes, some nice fruit complexity and some mineral notes as well.

Very funky on the nose at first. Almost like it's corked, but not quite the same odor. Fortunately, it blows off after 30 mins or so. Fills out beautifully and becomes a lovely, elegant wine.
