This was the inaugural vintage from this estate (the estate only produced its own wines from 2011-2014). This vineyard is planted to three unique clones: Calera, and two special “suitcase” clones from the Vosne-Romanée region of Burgundy. Winemaker is Matt Taylor (formerly Domaine Dujac, Joseph Swan, and Araujo). 14.0% alc., pH 3.78, TA 0.54, <500 cases, $70. 25% whole cluster. Aged 10 months in 40% new Remond French oak barrels. This vineyard was the source of the grapes for the …

Annual Friendsgiving Gathering (M/M thelostverse) : Popped and poured, courtesy of VM. Cherry and spice, quite a bit bigger and slightly riper than the preceding WesMar but very likable. Cherry and baking spice on the nose and palate. Lengthy finish.

Cherry, raspberry, chocolate. Delicious on its own.

Was a little concerned at first, as the cork came apart easily as I tried to open. But it was simply due to a high fill line. The wine is lively and really good. Lots of life left in it!

Nice balance of fruit and earthiness with chocolate and leather notes. Balanced tannins for a smooth and satisfying finish.

Somehow this other bottle wasn’t as good. Tasted twice with the help of Coravin

5/31/2017 92 Like a chocolate-covered cherry. Fruit-forward notes of cherry and raspberry, chocolate flavor, Asian spices and a liquor-like finish. This is a showy, sassy, fruit-forward wine that drinks best on its own, without a meal. Not especially classic but a crowd-pleaser wine. Drink now. This is $70 retail was a great bargain at $29 / bottle on close-out.

A bit of perfume on the nose, bright strawberry fruit on the palate. Very nice.

Very delicious and well balanced Pinot with lovely fruit, perfect acidity and great mouth feel. I loved the flavor profile and the level of richness without being over extracted. Beautiful bottle of wine.

Lighter color. Spicy, with pomegranate, persimmon, cinnamon. Quite nice, easy drinking wine.

Attention grabbing with good concentration and depth from such an uneven vintage. There's a real sense of class and elegance here as well. A bit of tannin on the back end... this should cellar well.

Fruit driven pinot that has well integrated acidity and tannins which makes it drink well young. Ripe black cherries, rhubarb, and cloves, a tad too sweet for me but definitely a crowd pleaser.

Decanted 2 hrs and paired with veal scallopini. Though concentrated this is elegant and understated with black fruits and spice, a fine texture, well integrated acidity, and beautiful structure. Both the flavor and impression of elegance linger long after each sip. Quite refined and delicious.

Popped and poured. Impressive core of red fruits and spice dialed slightly back for the sake of elegance but still providing impressive grip. Held firm by a solid, but not intrusive structure, this is a very impressive first effort. Stay tuned.

Consumed over 3 nights. Deep ruby color. Cherry and dark fruit nose with a bit of underbrush. Same profile on palate along with a hint of licorice; good tannic grip and nice acidity. Tannins softened over the time this was open, but it's still very young. Enjoyable now and should rate higher with a couple years of bottle age. A project worth following and supporting.

Dense and intense concentrated red fruit. Has a long life ahead of it. Ripe black cherries with a hint of spice. Very enjoyable.

Participated in a blind wine tasting of 8 Pinots with about a dozen pinotphiles. These are eclectic wine drinkers many of them with million dollar cellars. This was voted best though it was not the most expensive. My notes: complex and concentrated. Long aftertaste with some strong tanins that will serve well long-term. Although the rich bouquet says this is a California wine, it is nothing like a traditional California fruit bomb. It is closer to Burgundy but with the …
