SLDS August 2025 : Cherry, floral, blackberry, lifted, really pretty. Palate is more structured. Amazing balance for what it is.

Roger Sabon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Secret Des Sabon (Wine Road, Savyon) : The 2015 vintage presents a velvety mouthfeel with flavors of Linzer torte, warm cassis, and raspberry pâte de fruit. Notes of black tea, mulled spice, and melted licorice add depth. The long finish has latent grip and a beautiful iron accent, letting the fruit and perfume play out beautifully. However this bottle wasn't at the expected level and didn't really deliver.

Roger Sabon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Secret Des Sabon (Wine Road, Savyon) : The 2021 vintage reveals an elegant expression with notes of sour cherries, crushed dark berries, and plums. Hints of sunbaked earth, polished leather, and undergrowth add complexity. Firm tannins and a handsome flavor profile suggest excellent aging potential. However, this specific bottle wasn't at the expected level.

* Wine 1/6, 'Le Secret des Sabon' vertical tasting (2015, 2014, 2012, 2010, 2005, 2001). Opened 4 hours before serving, no decant. A very strong opener, with 2015 being the magnificent vintage that it is - this definitely set the expectations high for the rest of the evening. Color - dark and dense with a brooding core, no sign of age. On the nose - Very expressive, with notes of licorice and balsamic bursting out the glass, followed by tar, …

Love this. Black fruited and silky textured with a fine backbone of chalky tannins on the back end of the palate. Quite concentrated but with fine spice notes giving this lift. Really delicious and no hint of heat despite the scale.

One of the wines of the vintage opens with cinnamon, flowers, apples, kirsch and spice in the aromatic profile. On the palate, the wine is creamy, soft, and filled with sweet, ripe, round, cherries, black raspberries, and strawberry nuances. Vibrant, elegant, and open, the creamy textures, and freshness is a perfect fit for all of its red fruit. The wine is produced from 95% old vine Grenache with 5% coming from various, assorted, allowable grape varieties. Drink from 2025-2035.

Lost tasting notes when saving...from memory, PnP. Plum color. Nose smelled remarkably like a frozen pizza...tomato, mozzarella, basil. Palate was raspberry, spice, black tea. Smooth mouth feel.

Decanted 5 hours. It was good. It was smooth with a nice long finish. But I was expecting more aromatics and greater depth. Next one needs to be in 5 yrs and next 5 yrs after that. Confident this will age well.

Rhône or Nôwhere 2022 (Malcolm, Nebraska) : Somewhat analogous with my 2013 Chave Blanc impression, this was more about peering into the bright future in store for this wine. The potential is simply buried deep beneath the surface. All the stuffing is there for a special wine down the road. While enjoyable now, patience will be handsomely rewarded. Personally, I wouldn’t touch well-cellared examples until much closer to 2030.

Ken's Head to Head high-low blind shootout (Casa Tomek) : Beautiful nose of garrigue, raspberry, anise, kirsch and red licorice. Wonderful mouthfeel, very silky on the palate. A bit on the tight side, so this wine has some room to improve. Finished 2nd of 2 and was the more expensive wine.

Pop and pour. This is a gorgeous, modern CdP with dark fruit, olive, herbs and spice, nice viscosity. Bright and aromatic on the palate, it leaves you satisfied but wanting more. Nice secret.

Lovely sapy red berries and a creamy texture. Was expecting more depth considering the price however.

Decanted 90 minutes. Dark, high-toned Grenache with concentrated, silky fruit, aromatic herbs, cocoa. Very intense on the palate and perhaps lacking in balance because of it but the flavors are pure and delicious.

Very solid effort. Plenty of dried flowers and hints of strawberry. A touch of cedar and subtly zingy tannins that last quite a while.

Flowers, red fruits, garrigue and subtle hints of jam create the nose. On the palate is where the real action takes place. Pure red fruits, silky polished tannins and a fresh quality give the wine lift and energy. The kirsch in the finish does not want to quit.
