light weight / transparent; no real nose to speak of but well balanced, nice length with a touch of sweetness, good

A tasting of eight Badenhorst wines, this just edged out the others as my favourite among the four reds as an interesting expression of Grenache with good savory elements.

(16/20) Super elegant Grenache, lingering aftertaste. From the oldest Grenache vineyard in South-Africa, planted in 1952. Only 12 rows of vines. Fermented in concrete tanks, aged for 12 months in oak 500l barrels. Bottled unfiltered. Medium intense aromas of violet, raspberry, red plum, black pepper, liquorice wood, gunpowder, clove, black tea, wet earth. Dry wine, medium acidity, medium and fine-grained tannins, medium body, pronounced flavour intensity, long finish. 13,5% ABV - South-Africa tasting @ JdW

Powdery red fruit with a touch of lilac on the nose. Bright acidity and tannin with, dense strawberry and cherry on the palate. Slight frizzante which I could do without.

Transparent red color. Aromas of sweet red berries and herbs. Meaty, opulent and generous on the palate. Nice Grenache.
