Better of the two Amarone bottles last night. Well balanced, dense and concentrated, but a lighter style than some older bottles I have enjoyed. Still has more development with time.

Matter of Taste, Amarone Masterclass. Dry, low residual sugar. Quite light for Amarone. Not made in the traditional heavier style of many Amarone. Riper, sweeter fruit compared to the 2012, probably reflecting the hotter vintage. Good acidity and balance. 16% alcohol well integrated, not obvious on the palate. I preferred the 2010, which tasted more complex.

Drank over two hours. Balanced nose, warm and nuanced. Big mouth but manages to hide the 16% alcohol, very balanced and enjoyable with nice sweet dark fruit and well integrated oak. As the time passed the sweetness of the alcohol warmth tuned down but remained elevated. At a nice stage to drink it. A solid amarone.

Wonderful, complex nose. Extravagantly drank this bottle with some homemade Ribolita drizzled with new oil from Cortona. Wonderful pairing. Drinking beautifully now and offers everything you'd look for in an Amarone.

Bordeaux Index - Great Winemakers of Italy 2013 Tasting (London) : One of two surprises of the night. Excellent Amarone. Powerful, complex with great sweetness. I would leave for a few years before I drink it, but it holds excellent promise 4 = outstanding
