Prunotto, Dolcetto d'Alba

This wine was past its prime. Nose was fine and started with red fruit and cherry, but quickly turned to sour cherry with earthiness and strong minerals that was rather unpleasant. This should be an easy drinking wine for what it is, but I had forgotten about it and I think its prime was a couple of years ago. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like cranberry, raspberry, cherry, plum, dust, mineral, stoniness …

Luscious and juicy, bright and clear. This is a fruit-forward wine that has depth, a fine sense of minerality, beautiful fruit quality, and a well-modulated finish. It is outstanding wine, in a drink early style.

Totally fabulous wine, for its style. Gorgeous fruit, touch of cocoa. tangy acids, a touch of tannin, but not really the defining aspect of its structure. Stunning spiciness. I should have bought more. Not a keeper, but as a drink, really fine.

As a good all-round food wine not a lot can compete with a well made Dolcetto like this one. Dark berries, pepper and a refreshing acidity. In the 10-15 euro range I would have a hard time finding something else I would rate at this level. Only problem is that the high acidity and lack of sweetness is normally no crowd-pleaser combination.

Dolcetto do grupo Antinori sem passagem em madeira. Perfil suculento, bem frutado, com taninos maduros e sedosos. Acidez vibrante, salivante, conferindo ao conjunto muito frescor e caráter gastronômico. Deu boa liga com Filé à Parmegiana guarnecido por Fettuccine. Chegou pelo Clube Adega Gran Gold e foi muito bem-vindo, mas não sou de correr atrás de tintos sem passagem em madeira.
