I’m a big fan of Viader . But….. The ‘17 vintage of V doesn’t measure up IMO. Jet purple black color reflecting 59% Petite Verdot/41% Cab Sauv. High acid and strong tannins somewhat softened by the 41% Cab. Decanted 2 hours -paired with grilled hanger steak-palate notes of dense black fruit, wet stone, medium mouth feel and relatively short finish was disappointing. Didn’t get a lot of depth due to the strong petite Verdot influence—

Round and soft resolved tannins. Nice stewed red fruit and chocolate on the palette, but a little bitter and gamey on the finish. Beyond its peak, but still very enjoyable. Coravine’d a glass last week, consumed rest last night.

Color: borderline purple, with signs of aging on the rim Nose: dried plum, spiced cola & cherry. Taste: smoothed-put tannins, yet still dry on the finish. Full-bodied, but hardly overpowering. Drinks like a Bordeaux with drying spice & earth on the finish, yet still very much a Howell Mountain wine with that signature dried blackberry, tobacco, and just a smidge of Mountain herbs underlying the heavy fruit. Overall, this has aged quite well, and can see it going to the …

Honestly didn't get much out of this, although it was cold out by the end of the night after all of the other wines. Seemed like a classic, average cab. Need to re-taste. DD tasting blind Malibu.

Should be decanted for heavy sediment. Perfumed, spiced and full of plum and blueberry. Integrated and nearly seamless, though the mouthfeel is somewhat powdery. A classy showing at age 10 and likely at peak.

Hour decant. Black cherry predominates up front with road tar and leather on the back end. The tannins are largely resolved and there is noticeable acidity.

Monthly Men's Wine Dinner (Black Bottle, Bellevue, WA) : Showed beautifully if a bit tight upon opening with thick body of inky violet. After a confused phased, blossomed into a more delicate, silky texture. Unusual but delicious blend of 65% Petit Verdot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. My #2 of 5 and the group's WOTN.

Leather and licorice on the nose. Palate is really nicely balanced with black fruit and a sweet tart pop, good leather but surprising fruit. The tannins are really well integrated. Finish is leathery with a bit of an alcohol pop that is surprising given it is a 14% level. Drinking really well now.

Still drinking very well. A unique blend which is quite good. Almost syrah in nature but without the spice factor. Big, bold, purple and not overdone. Pair with food.

This was dark garnet colored, medium-full bodied, bursting with bright vibrant black raspberry, ripe plum and currant fruits, accented by a layer of mocha, hints of leather and earth on a tangy bright silky smooth but firm tannin lingering finish. http://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2016/04/viader-v-2002-proprietary-napa-red-blend.html

Decanted for 1-1/2 hrs then rebottled and took to Chez Billy Sud. Inky violets, silk and glorious texture and mouth feel. Extended finish. One of the best wines I've had in the last year. Bravo DELIA and Janet.

I'm enjoying this btl very much. There's a certain something to it. It's dark, opaque red in color. It has a little pencil on the nose and then explodes in flavor on the palate and particularly on the long finish. Good stuff, I think.

This wine brings a lot of pleasure. The texture is balanced with enough age to bring forward the complexities from behind the big fruit. Delia Viader has a beautiful vineyard that is capable of great things.....

Brilliant ruby/purple with no sign of age; bright and clear. Generously perfumed, with complex notes of purple flower, brown spices, pie crust, cedar, plum and clove. A harmonious and generous palate that offers class and length, but just the slightest touch of EtOH, too, suggesting more air and/or a few more years in the cellar. More interesting on the nose than the palate, this is nonetheless a winner (though the price seems a bit ahead of itself). 14,3% abv., now …

Dark blackish garnet colored, medium bodied, this opened with an obtuse acidic edge of black cherry that took a half hour to shed. Over the course of the hour it gained complexity and depth with concentrated black fruits punctuated by pencil lead, creosote and tobacco leaf. The longer it was opened the more it took on a layer of sweetness with tones of dark chocolate/mocha and sweet oak with gripping tannins on the moderate finish. Likely at its apex right …

Found this to be a fine bottle. Black fruits with balanced tannins, Typical Viader understated style. All the parts are working together nose, but it's only got another year or two in my opinion.

Deep ruby to garnet, more medium ruby at the edges. Ripe cherry, dark chocolate/mocha aromas with sweet red fruit, sweet oak. An interesting wine with moderate residual tannin, medium finish, and overall good balance. Notable for the prominence of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot. 89-91.

Drank from magnum. Needs a lot of air. Initially was pretty tight and almost backward. After several hours, this started to show some sweet red fruit, berry compote, strawberry preserves, with a good backbone and nice balance. I think this will age, but not sure how gracefully. Sadly, this was my only bottle so won't have any idea how it drinks in 5-10 years. (PE: 89)

Drank last night at the Hollywood Bowl w/ wife and another couple. A little disappointed due to the fact that the wine never really opened up (taste or nose). I am not sure if it needed a few more years in the btl or past it's peak (the latter would be my guess). On occasion I would get a wiff of dark berries, chocolate and graphite only to be disappointed on the next swirl when it was no longer there. …

Still a dark purple but nose opens gradually to pick up dark fruit, stone, violet, and a little oak. Still very tannic on the palate but drinkable if that's ok with you. Wait a at least another year if you're patient...

Aroma: Honey, violets, plums and a little mustiness with raw meat. Taste: Plums, prunes, and raisins intertwine into a tannic finish that is like a mouthful of fine sawdust, not in a harsh way, but very dominant. Nice wine but cries to be paired with fats and proteins, to balance the finish. Would be fantastic with grilled steak.

Surprisingly good - a nose of white chocolate, berry and just a slight medicinal edge. Balanced on the palate with the PV giving lots of grip to the finish with just a hint of bramble. Good now and for the next 4-5 years.
