Domaine Saint-Damien, Gigondas, Souteyrades

This is an absolutely great Gigondas! It is full-bodied, intensive, very fruity and even sweet, displaying tempting notes of ripe dark fruits and herbs. But it is also fresh, acidic and structured, leading into an ideal sense of freshness. You can store this, but this is really tempting now!

Ruby. Rich red fruit and spice aromas. Full but not heavy. Lush, completely ripe black raspberry, a touch of fig, licorice, and lavender. Solid acidity and round tannins. Excellent, long, significant aging potential.

The 2020 Domaine Saint-Damien Les Souteyrades Gigondas..is a full body delicious.. that’s real value for your money!!

On the lighter side. Refreshing red fruits. Nice QPR

Unique and interesting. Fig, herb, vanilla. Finishes with an unexpected mouthwatering sour cherry/sour apple acidity.

Deep, dark reddish-purple in color; essentially opaque. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & cassis with overtones of floral notes of violets & earthy/dusty notes, spices, pepper, licorice/anise, minerals & hints of garrigue & oak/vanilla in the background. Short decant. Could have used more air time. Muted nose. Red and black berries, dried fruits and black pepper. Fresh and balanced with some tannic grip. Medium bodied and smooth with a medium length finish.

Pending delivery, and since it is way too young to enjoy now, I can only make one comment on this Rhone blend and that is, from past vintages I would put the ideal drinking window between 2027 and 2030.

Les Souteyrades is a Lieu-dit from plots located on the lower terraces of the Gigondas appellation. An approximate blend of 80% old vine Grenache and 20% old vine Mourvèdre that was aged for 12 months in used oak barrels, this is a deep ruby wine effusive of red, black and blue fruit. Absolutely enjoyed the power of the old growth grenache. I enjoyed quite a bit more after a couple hours of air and also on day 2. Deep cherries and chocolate and well supported for aging.

medium body, a little heavy on the tannins and light on the fruit -but ok - and somewhat better the 2nd day. I have a few more bottles so we'll see what they hold

Aromas of fresh, bright cherries, earth, black pepper. Bright flavors, but mellowing, slightly acidic, still very young. Tannins tight. Nice, soft finish. Doris 90.
