Shalauri Cellars Saperavi Unfiltered, Qvevri fermentation

Tasted during an evening of wines chosen to be slightly weird or unusual! Of the wines tasted, this was the only wine in good condition and therefore went well with our haggis and beef cottage pie. Deep Burgundian colour. Nose shows violets and sweet red fruit, stewed apples. Dry and chewy palate. Stewed apples and blackberries, slightly bitter aftertaste but that didn't detract from the enjoyment. Still a little young, might benefit from another year or two. Good.

Med. Purple colour - suggesting it is still a bit of a baby even after 8 years. Med intensity nose. Dark fruit, damsons, cherry, herby, spice. I suspect it enjoyed a tadge too much MLF. High(fine) tannin, medium acidity, decent balance and length of finish.

Crisp, full body, crisp, earth, smoke, plums, velvety tannin. Very rich and nice.
